Looking for any information on this nice little cam as I have had no luck trawling the internet for any info or personal stories about using these cams. While I was not around for the days of Steve’s business, I have family ties to him and Smiley’s, and would love to be able to put this cam to proper use with some more info.

I'll be surprised if there's anything so special about this brand cam. It's a generic cam of the 90's; a near-clone of the dual stem Camalot Juniors of the time. I'm sure it worked just fine (and still will), but as was the case with Rock Empire cams and other 2nd tier gear, most folks gravitated toward the big brands and the lesser brands faded away.

Done Dana... Best wishes from Corsica!
I was in correspondence with Stephen Carman about his company Smiley’s Climbing Equipment in the mid nineties. He very kindly sent me a set of his most innovative Smiley’s Wedgies Slung (1994) for the Nuts Museum. The Mighty Smiley Camming Units hit the market in 1995. Unfortunately, I do not have any sample of these little wonders at home...

Thank y’all for the information! Did not know about the wide range of 90’s cams. If I dig up any more of these cams around the family in a size that I’m not likely to use I’ll try and remember the museum.

Oh yes Peter, it would be a great pleasure if you could do that for me. I do not have the original brochure that I posted on this thread and it would be nice to get it for my archives.

Anyway, if you can, give my best regards to Stephen Carman's family for me. We were in contact in July 1994...

I had a set of cams from the 90s, lost one and gave the rest away. They were possibly made in China and felt like cheap POS. One of my current partners has three of them that I gave him. They were not confidence inspiring.

I suspect the Mighty Smiley Camming Units are more likely made in Korea than in China.

At that time all the other cam makers(BD, Metolius etc) were still employing actual climbers to make the gear. I was a cheap ass and bought some from some guy in SLC(Russ?) instead of just buying some Metolius. BD only made down to .5 at that point in time and aliens were just weird

That's what I was thinking. Non-US/non-UK gear of that era seemed to come either from Korea or Eastern Europe. The quality was not all that bad IME.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
