I'll be doing long tent camping NFS mostly, between South Lake and Sonora and Ebbets Pass areas; other years I'd usually take a shower in a gym which I'd hit once a week. Gyms all over South Lake and Stateline are open but seems like showers are closed in all of them. There used to be KOA in SLT where one could take a shower while doing laundry but it went out of business a couple of years ago. Tahoe RV park was another place that offered showers but under new ownership they decided they don't want this anymore. There's KOA in Colville area, a couple of RV resorts including one at Twin Lakes, a resort between SLT and Ebbetts Pass, and a hotel around Lover's Leap that usually allow to take a shower for a fee, but not sure if they'd be allowing showers this year. Any info? Yes I got a couple of solar showers including the one with leg pump and a shower tent but I still want a nice long shower once in a while, especially since longish hair need tons of water to wash them. There're coin showers in some campgrounds including State Parks in the general area, but I'm hoping to find non-coin options for a longer/better shower.

Danny,
Please don't use "biodegradable" soap in the lakes and streams. It's not fully biodegradable and the Forest Service disapproves.
Hope you're doing well and having fun!

The ONLY place where it's acceptable to wash in a body of water with any kind of soap: 38.896116, -77.036556

Looking forward to my summer backpacking trips in the Sierra. Sounds like you're on an indefinite road trip? People do use soap away from the water. Those little sun-shower things, a hydration bladder, etc. can all be used for a less-than-fulfilling shower/bath experience. I think most people just jump in the lake, without soap. I've even heard people say not to do that if you have DEET on you, but that seems too extreme to me.

Strawberry Lodge does do showers, with towel included, but now costs $8.

Thanks - yes, Strawberry Lodge is what I meant by hotel near Lover's Leap. I was just wondering if there's any info on places like that being open and operating as usual. (I just wish the lodge cleared up those slow drains) I have a feeling that the current situation will be used by some to get rid of services provided low-key/old-school campers, dirtbags, etc and to cater only to certain more expensive crowd. For example, KOA in Colville area posted online they won't let any guests on premises, only campers (they have good showers), and some convoluted procedure to even enter the camp, but hope this will change in July. Tahoe Valley RV park shut down shower option once it changed ownership a couple of years ago. I didn't call up the hotels/RV parks yet, wanted to wait until after Independence day - places keep opening up more services as summer progresses and wondered if anyone already used these options. Lover's Leap will be out of my way most of the time from Ebbets and Sonora pass areas, quite a drive. Gyms are open but no showers even for members - info which wasn't posted on any of the gym's websites, by the way. As to Grover HS - yeah, a few State parks campgrounds are open, so this is another option (coin-op, though). The pool part there with showers is closed, I believe, and I doubt they'd reopen it at all in 2020 just from the way things are going with state parks.
Regarding creek option...yes, any gentlest soap can harm water life, so not a good option, normally soap used with solar showers is used away from water body so stuff gets filtered through the ground. But vehicles parked close to water bodies do A LOT more damage to water purity than any of the soaps, one can see petrochemical film in poodles up in the High Sierra where one wouldn't expect anything but the purest enviornment. Frankly, pollution blown from Central Valley and run off into the waters goes a lot more damage than soaps too. Vinegar (diluted) can be used to wash hair by the way, but because of its PH it's also probably not great to put it in the creek. Anyway, I've been reading about a young doctor who claims soaps do nothing and kill beneficial body flora/bacteria that keep the odor down, exactly, and better wash without them with plain water, he's been doing it for years. As to creeks - they're going to be icy cold high in the Sierra even in August....I never had great experience with washing in creeks.
PS: I didn't reply earlier as the website woudln't let me - after initially posting got a message that they limit number of posts from new members and to come back to post later - but it did not say when/what is the waiting period - which his odd, would expect at least to say number of hours not to waste time checking.... I'm not a forum person, really, but used to be on ST.

One has a foot-powered pump and water bag is sitting on the ground - haven't tried it yet, must be good for where there're no trees/branches. I probably will be in waterless places a lot and water will need to be hauled from creeks quite a drive away - sometimes it's just easier to drive to the shower place once a week. I make alcohol-based wipes for time between showers when there's no water nearby.
