Non dog friendly-Marquette MI
Planning on climbing near Marquette and I’m bringing a dog. I am wondering if there are any climbing areas where dogs are not welcome. |
I thought this thread was going to be where you didn't have a dog and really wanted to go to a crag where other people also didn't have dogs. That would have been an interesting take. Sorry I can't be of help! |
No areas come to mind. Some of the beaches in the Marquette city limits have no dog rules, but the crags are all outside the city, except for Presque Isle which allows dogs. That being said, there is currently a fox den behind the Pinnacle with pups, so I would ask that you do not bring your dog down there. |
Actually Presque Isle does not allow dogs....all other crags are open to them |
Wetmore beach boulders are also not supposed to have dogs. People do it, but I think you could potentially get a ticket. |
If dogs are not allowed at Wetmore, that is the first I have ever heard that in 20+ years of taking dogs there. Why do you say that, Jaren? Have I missed something? Dogs are allowed everywhere around 550, with the exception of Echo Lake Nature Preserve. |

My wife has been stopped twice there by the same person who said they aren't allowed and that person said she was part of making that rule. No tickets given. This was last year. So, I'm guessing it could have changed when the recreation passports started or something but it isn't really enforced. I wouldn't worry about it. It's not in town and even in town no dogs on beaches isn't enforced everywhere even though it's in the municipal code. Sec. 8-12. - Animals prohibited. |

Was this person a Conservation Officer? I suspect it was just a busy body that didn’t know the law. Heck, PureMichigan even advertises this section of NCT as best dog hike: michigan.org/article/trip-i… |
Could have been someone who doesn't know what they're taking about and thinks they need to take the law into their own hands and harass people. This is possible . |

At Wetmore and Little Presque dogs are allowed on a 6 foot leash |
