Camping at Lime Creek
|
What is the camping like at Lime Creek? Is it free? Is it hard to snag a spot in July? |
|
Yes, and yes. |
|
There is more camping further along the road but it is somewhat inconvenient. Doable though. |
|
How many spots are there? If we showed up on a Wednesday or maybe a Thursday morning, would that give us a chance to snag one? |
|
Terrible camping, awful choss limestone, and a horrible road in. I’d 100% avoid this place. |

I echo what others are saying. Access isn’t great, The climbing is just ok. The camping sucked, really the forest service should make a campground. In 2019, We camped near the canyon VERY BIG MISTAKE! With the number of users, It has limited access, camping spots, no toilets and privacy. Friday night around 40 vehicles started showing up between 6pm - 2am. With such limited amenities, people just parked on the side of the road, pulled into meadows, campers with generators, ATVS , barking dogs and partying into the early morning (4). Saturday morning walking to the crag, between the beers cans, dogs, haze from the smoking reminence of campfires and people sleeping everywhere along the road/ trail, it’s was disturbing. Then repeat for Saturday night. I don’t have plans to go back But if I do, I would camp near the pass and bike down to the crag. |

Its sad but its all pretty gross now. small area too many irresponsible campers I,d shoot for the Frying pan, better climbing and cleaner area. Or Rifle or Carbondale. |

Mikey Mayhem Sheridan wrote: Shhhh, don’t let people know how good the camping and climbing is in bonedale. Matt, there’s loads of good camping up the crystal and other various public lands. Check out coal creek and redstone, both of which have really quality sandstone climbing. If you’re willing to hike a bit, marble has some quality alpine climbing in the area. |

Thanks for the feedback ya'll. I'll be sure to bring some trash bags and clean up any litter I see. I'm from Kentucky originally, so seeing garbage in the woods isn't too unusual for me! |

Wow, super disappointing this place has taken such a turn. Granted, I was there a few years back but didn't share any of those experiences. I will agree that the climbing isn't super special though. |

Lime creek opens June 14 according to the rangers I talked to this past weekend. |
