Working / Climbing Around Maple Canyon

Hi All,

Not headed to Maple Canyon now (obviously). However, starting to plan things out.

I work online a few hours a day to support the climbing habit. How far away from camping/climbing is the nearest cafe or Starbucks that would normally allow me to buy coffee and food while working for a few hours and bumming their WiFi? I assume it would be in Moroni, but I wasn't sure.

Thanks!

There's not much in Moroni. You should expect to need to drive to Ephraim for most errands and amenities. 25-30 min.

The Snow College library in Ephraim is the place to be for internet and work space. A nice college library that is pretty much empty for the summer. Quiet, lots of space to work, can stay as long as you like, no pressure to buy anything. It is pretty much best case scenario for a workspace, aside from the drive to get there. Last time I was there you had to ask the librarian for a guest password for the internet, but that was a few years ago so there may be changes.

A lot of the popular walls in Maple are well suited to an afternoon/evening climbing schedule (shade/temps), so working in the morning and then heading into the canyon early afternoon to climb would work out very well.

My GF and I are thinking about hitting up this area in a week.  Planning to stay a few weeks before we head on to Ten sleep.  Looking for suggestions to camp, below are accommodations needed.

1.  Van camping

2.  Must have wifi or good verizon coverage in order to work remotely.

3.  Must have shade for the heat this time of year.

4.  Pet friendly

Nice to haves would be toilets, showers, water but we can do dispersed camping if the above aren't possible.

We only work part time, so we don't mind driving an hour or so out.  When climbing we would just stay I believe at the MC campgrounds that is right there.

Thanks

One option is to camp by the climbing (Maple Canyon Campground), and commute into Ephraim to work and for other amenities (showers, groceries, etc). Snow College Library is the place to be for working and wifi.

This is a bit humorous to me and comes off as....priveliged af. There aren't any starbucks near by and no Miguels Pizza for you. Barely even cell service out there.

The campground will 100% be booked out for the whole summer. But fortunately there is BLM camping on the backside of Maple. It has shade (lol), allows dogs, and may have a cell signal occasionally.

haha, yeah Miguel's, Daniel Boone and all the other camping options and amentities sure are nice at the red.  All those options are out there, but finding them in one place can be difficult sometimes.  RIght now mainly is the heat, so we may just go to Ten Sleep first and hit Maple a little later in the year ;).

Oh and this was a mistype, "if the above are met".  I meant aren't ;).

So our week turned in to 42 days.   We love it here but time to move on. Just wanted to leave a little feedback for other visitors.

Most important for us was connectivity. We use Verizon. As mentioned some of the lower camp spots have coverage. We have a cell booster so this allowed us to do the remote work we needed.  Also when not too hot we could sit in the van at Walmart in ephraim and get on wifi.

Showers can be had at horne activity center for $3, or $5 gets you a day pass to use what all they have.

For rest days and to cool off when hot we went to salt creek. About 20 mins away. I think it is all BLM camping.  no cell service but not needed for us on rest days.

We mostly cooked but evenings when we went for supplies our favorite place was Roy's pizza in ephraim.

If you are a health nut or vegan/ vegetarian as we are the grocery stores around are not that great. Terrels in mt pleasant and Walmart we made work. One rest day we did venture out to Spanish fork. Around an hour away. We found a Good Nature and a Smith's (basically kroger) as well as pretty much any other places you would need.

If you run into vehicle trouble, I'm gonna say every house has junk cars/trucks sitting in the yard and at least 2 campers within a 30 min radius    .  Just so funny and you wonder how things like that come to be haha.

Oh and plenty of shade and always 7-8 degrees cooler than fountain green forecasts up in the canyon.

Hope some of this helps and we'll be back next year.
