A change for MP and REI

Hi folks, I'm psyched to announce that I'm back at the helm of Mountain Project (and the other Project sites).  As you probably know, REI has owned MP and Adventure Projects since 2015. While they continue to believe in these properties, they recently made some prioritization decisions to ensure the co-op’s continued success.  I've always loved operating Mountain Project, and together with REI we found a way to make sure it can continue.  There will be a big partnership announcement in the next few weeks related to this transition - one which I think will be very good for all climbers.

Mountain Project's time with REI was very productive - the site was re-written from scratch and usage grew dramatically.  Also, I want to say that I've never seen a large retail company do more for employees or nonprofits (I also admire Patagonia for the same reasons).  America would be a better place if more companies were more like REI.

Thanks to everyone for your part in creating Mountain Project.  I love climbing and building web sites - this is a dream job for me, and together we're helping millions of climbers everywhere get more out of their time on the rock, and that's pretty damn cool.

Does this mean that MP will no longer be part of REI?

Welcome back, Nick. You have done an incredible amount of work for MP in the past and it's a huge benefit to the site and its users having you here again.

interesting, considering they just prompted me to accept the new TOS, which presumably added the "tradiban" clauses where they can moderate content with impunity.

either way, i'm super excited to see you back on MP! are you allowed to share any details on what this means for the trajectory of MP?

What does this mean for Tradiban?

Thank GAWD!!!!

Suggestion: "Beyond the Guidebook" seems a bit much. Maybe a slogan around enhancing guidbooks rather than something that is taking the place of guidebooks? I can't speak for others, but most of the climbers i know love the proj as a tool to use WITH the guidebook, not a replacement.

Exciting times although I'll admit it reminds me of when Rockclimbing.com changed hands back when they were number 1. Despite what I think of REI, they did a good job of stewardship here and I would like them to know it was appreciated.

THANKS REI!!!!!

Yeah. One of the only perks. If you don't count weather, beaches, mountains, deserts, women, culture and technology. And unlimited climbing.

The Southwest sucks donkey balls. It is too dry, too hot AND too cold. There are no mountains, culture, technology (we ride around on burros), or women. We do live in a desert, and this is our one and only beach.

It is a good thing I like donkey balls.

well the ever-present buggy rei banner is gone, so i'll call that an enhancement. i, for one, enjoy the larger hero banner.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
