dope, but does that 50 watt panel actually do anything? seems tiny.

The battery is also charged by the alternator, which provides a bulk charge. However, even though an alternator can get a battery up to 95-98% relativley quickly, it will take several, several hours to get that last bit charged. The 50w panel provides a trickle charge that more easily can top the battery off and also keep it topped off during the day when the fridge is running and the van is in the sun. It is a supplement to the system to keep a healthier battery. I lived in the van full time and used the aux battery for the fridge, laptop, my phone, etc. regularly and never had a problem keeping the battery in a healthy charge range.
