Favorite Alpine Rock Pant?

Anyone have some pants that they use for alpine rock that they particularly like? I’m looking for something that moves well, is reasonably light, and has decent wind/water resistance. Preferably something not Arc’teryx.

If you can find the Outdoor Research Voodoo pants, they are great. I usually blow through other pants after a few months and these have held up really well over 6 months of heavy use. They are a beefier version of the Ferrosi pants but they don’t make them anymore. The ferrosi pants are pretty good too!

Cannot recommend mine enough for alpine rock/mix/snow/ice but its only sold in Switzerland (La Sportiva Alpine Guide) so I would say any Mammut softshell pants, preferably in a fun/high visibility color (ie. not black) Oh, and I also personnaly really value zip ventilations

Thanks for the recommendations so far, everyone! Chris, I’m looking for something with a bit more weather resistance than the Zions.

I really like my Fjällräven Keb Trousers and my Tierra Lite Track Pants for alpine stuff, and I would say that both would tick your boxes quite well, with differences here and there.

Go with softshell pants then.

I've got a pair of Patagonia's simul alpine pants which I really like. IME they provide the right amount of warmth and weather resistance for alpine rock in places like the Bugaboos.

“Alpine rock” has a pretty wide range of possible conditions, from the North Pillar of Fitz Roy to the East Ridge of Wolfs Head. Given the range of things that people call “alpine roc” you’re going to get a pretty wide range of answers here from people who are convinced that the particular pair of pants they’re recommending is the best thing since sliced bread.

Patagonia Simulalpine are pretty good, except they got rid of the belt loops on the most recent version and only have the stupid button toggle thing. If you can find a pair from a few years ago they’re great.
The old Black Diamond BDV pants are pretty good too. But they again, stopped making them a few years back. The “Alpine Light” pants are the closest thing BD makes now, but the fabric and fit are very different than the BDV. More form fitting and lighter weight fabric.
NW Alpine makes a nice pair of soft shell pants here in the USA. Durable, good fit, gusseted cuffs to fit over ski boots if necessary.

OR Ferrosis are nice, but super lightweight and not very weather resistant. IMO better suited to a rock climbing pant than an “alpine” pant, but if your intended use is for stuff like the Sierra or Wind Rivers in the summer, it’s a good option.
The OR pants fit has changed in the past couple years and gotten much slimmer so probably worth trying a pair on before you buy.

Thanks for the long reply, Matt! When I say alpine rock I’m pretty much talking about places like RMNP, the Wind River Range, the Bugaboos, etc. Somewhere that might require just a bit of snow/glacier travel, but not much, with pure rock climbing (not mixed) always being the objective. I was actually checking out the Black Diamond Alpine and Alpine Light pants, and they seem to be pretty good options.

Patagonia Simul-Alpine Pants. Pretty perfect blend of lightweight, with a little stretch, breathable, yet noticeably wind/water resistant. Also, the belt feature is really helpful if you use it right. Just hold the pants button steady, and pull outwards on the belt tab

Rab Vectors have been one of my most recent favorite pants. Any pair I have had from Rab has been incredible and outperform all expectations

I have the BD Winter Alpine pants. Not the Alpines or Alpine Lights but I can say that I love the Winter Alpines. They're a bit too warm for sunny days over 35ºF but the fit and quality is great. I wear them skiing on non-powder days (They barely stretch over my boots), ice climbing, rock climbing in the shoulder seasons, and even hiking with the wife. Honestly, this thread made me look up the Alpines and I'll probably end up with a pair of those for when The Park reopens.

My favorite alpine plant around here is the bakeapple or arctic blueberry. Whatever keeps the critters happy though.
