Summer Undies for Men

Well it'll be here soon in the Northeast - typical 80 degrees F and 90% humidity while chasing the shade. Meanwhile, it's the time of social distancing and I've decided that lately I'll try and find a few solutions to some of the minor inconveniences that I've encountered climbing

Last season I started wearing my old running shorts with those built-in supportive hammock-like things. Very effective breathable and effective. However, I have a few other pairs of shorts that are more durable and will likely hold up longer, but cotton underwear never seemed to breathe well and would really hold moisture. I'd consider going without them entirely except shorts are baggy enough that I'm sure you'd be able to catch a glimpse of the mouse in his house

Does anyone feel strongly about their summer underwear?

Never thought it would be a big deal, but switched to exofficio give n go sport mesh when climbing/hiking in the heat.  absolutely fantastic. I like em better than the few saxx pairs I've tried.

I wish summers where I climbed were  like yours

I found the ex-officio's previously mentioned to ride up really uncomfortably. Won't be buying them again, not that I have a much better solution.

I once got my foot stuck in a crack for 10 minutes, I wouldn't want to risk anything else if possible

If you look up the video "Clucking", you will see some benefits to not wearing undies.

My immediate instinct is that I don't want to watch whatever that is and I will trust it

Could be some great laughs to get you through quarantine.  Rock climbing at a different level.

Not sure which Saxx ones you have, but they do make some in a quick-dry sport mesh. I can't tell a difference in the performance of the 2 fabrics, and I like the fit and functionality of the Saxx much better. My Exofficios stay in the drawer, and I have several pairs of the Saxx that get worn all the time.

..but on a similar note, i'm impressed that you manage your underwear by season...

I only wear underwear in the winter....like wool pant underwear.

Problem solved. You are welcome

The warmest I've climbed in the last year has been probably 95°F and the coldest was -20°F. My winter climbing underwear is a bit overkill in summer conditions

Someone recommended these on here a while back, I gave them a try, now absolutely love them: NiceClimbs Men's Travel Underwear. I think they used to be calle Gneiss, or still are, not sure.

Not sure that they'd be the best for summer heat specifically, I just really like them overall. Really high quality fabric and build. On par or maybe even a touch better than the super expensive Patagonia boxer briefs

Get shorts with a longer inseam; when it comes to underwear, less is more.

Smartwool or Icebreaker underwears

Sounds crazy. But women's underwear perform much better. There is something about the tight fit that really helps climbing performance.

There was a guy wore stole a pair Lynn hills underwear and climbed significantly better, wearing them.  Hopefully someone has the story. It is a great story.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
