Hangboard mounting question - Rock Prodigy on Blank Slate Apex?

Along with the rest of  the world, I ordered a Rock Prodigy hang board, and would like to mount it on a door frame since I'm not able to drill directly into the walls where I'm currently living. Thinking of those made by Blank Slate.

Question is about how much space I need on the blank slate - which model will it work on?

Trango recommends: "For the mounting board, Trango recommends smooth 3⁄4” plywood, at least 12” x 36” in size, or a 36” long piece of 2x10” lumber."

Blank slate boards are 29x8 or 29x16. Anyone have experience they are willing to share mounting the RPTC to one of these? Can I get away with this? How about with the thinner version (the taller one may not fit in my space)? The trango recs seem ambiguous as far as height goes.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Couldn't you just attach whatever size piece of wood you need to the wood that's on the Blank Slate board?

While I don’t have experience with the blank slate mounting boards, I just measured my Rock prodigy setup, as it is currently mounted. The total width measured between the two widest points of the pinches is approximately 27 inches. The distance between the two half’s of the board is approximately 2.5 inches.

I’m small/relatively narrow shoulders, you may want your board slightly wider, (better yet, adjustable distance, if you are willing to do that!)

But the bottom line, I can’t see any reason why you couldn’t mount the rock prodigy board on a 29 inch wide blank slate.

The 36 inch piece recommendation most likely comes from the size of the doorway, and the need to screw the mounting board in the studs above the doorway, but since you aren’t going that, with the apex board, you should be fine with the 29inch width.

9 inch height would be just enough (that’s the height of Rockprodugy.) you could mount it still, because the screw-in points are a lot closer than 9 inches vertically. But if your space/budget allows for 16inch one, maybe go that routine?

Thank you! That is extremely helpful.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
