Hangboard Designs?

Hi,

I'm a novice climber, started climbing about a month or two ago and because of the Corona virus quarantines and stuff I can't go to my gym and practice anymore. For three weeks. I don't want to get rusty during this time, but because I live in Turkey buying a hangboard requires me to trade in a liver, which I don't have the luxury of doing. Instead I want to go to a carpenter and just have a hangboard done, so, the crux:

Do you have some good hangboard designs I can have done at a carpenter? Ideally not something too complex.

If you're a new climber, a hangboard wont help much. Just do whatever at home fitness you can and try to stay healthy

Any decent shop with a router table could whip this up in about 15 minutes. Make it out of poplar (though I hear cherry also works well), and have them hit the edges with a roundover bit (start at 5mm and move up if that's too sharp). A simple hangboard like this would serve you well for years.

Mark, why not a 20mm edge?

That would be fine as well- 15mm might be too small for a beginner.  Another thing you could do would be to get both slots routed to 25mm, but get a couple 5x30mm strips that you could stick in the back of the slots to adjust the depths.

You could, of course, just make the board taller and include a third slot.  The main point is that, despite the preponderance of boards out there with tons of features (I've owned a Simulator, both Trango boards, and a Tension Grindstone Pro), the only things you really need are a couple of good, skin-friendly edges.

How true.

Keep it clean and simple. The super-featured hangboards with all the various pockets/jugs etc... Maybe someone much stronger has a need for all of those.

nail a 2x4 to the wall then maybe a 2x1 next to it? if you need a sloper just saw an angle on it? I think there are a lot of ways you could make something sturdy enough to hang on and not spending much. Just dont hit the hangs too hard and hurt something, start small and slowly work your way up.

Hangboard i made last year. The Swol-board v2

Definitely easier to just screw together some pieces of lumber, rather than router out holds like i did.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
