cheap places to stay in Vegas

Is there any dumpy casinos (that are still safe) that y'all recommend for an upcoming trip to Red Rocks?

Is Air Bnb a cost-effective alternative or no? Thoughts?

Trying to not camp so I don't have to check a bag with tent, sleeping bag, stove, etc....

When are you going? You can find deals at any casino mid week around 75$ per night or better especially off the strip. If you're just going for RR and are not interested in the traditional Vegas happenings, I'd avoid the strip altogether. AirBNBs are cheap away from the strip, if you're cool with just renting a single room. Just googled this one for a total of 72$ for a Friday-Sunday stay. might even be cheaper than camping...

Have fun!

Bellagio's has an awesome brunch.

Stay downtown and they will practically give you a room. And safe compared to what? Rock climbing? Haha. Just don't bang any hookers without a rubber.

Giving rooms away downtown hahaha. When was the last time you were down there?

The el Cortez would be fun place to stay, "far" from red rock though.

A lot of it depends on what is going on in town at the time. Try and come during CES or EDC for example and everything will be $$$

Depends on what you mean by "cheap"...
My first trip to RR I stayed in the Hampton Inn off Tenaya.  Just a few weeks ago I went back for another trip and stayed at an AirBnB just by the In-N-Out Burger on Sahara
It was half the price, super-duper nice, and also near the In-N-Out Burger...

Look on HotWire.com  the hot rate deals are almost always the cheapest hotel prices online. I got a room at the Paris a few weeks ago on Hotwire for under $50 a night all said and done.

After reading the article below, I have decided that airbnb's creepiness factor is getting too high for the benefit of their service.

Last time I was in Vegas was Thanksgiving 2013 :-)

We had people trying to get us to stay downtown at the airport by offering us free dinner, golf etc. Like $50 a night.

We stayed at Bellagio's...saw that Michael Jackson thing at Mandalay Bay.

WOW thanks for the quick replies everyone!

I'm looking to avoid all the hooplah associated with vegas for the most part (i.e. the strip), but it might be worth it to check out once. A $40 beer might sound good after 3 days on rock...

Is there decent cell phone service at the calico lot and first pullout area (civilization crag/the hamlet)? Would I be able to Uber or should I just suck it up and rent a car? And would ubers to/from Red Rocks for 3 days be more expensive than just a car? I know this depends on where I'm staying, so assume I stay at an airBnb near red rocks..

Thanks!

Splurge for the car...its like $30 a day. And gives you the freedom to move around if something goes south on you, like the Airbnb has rats and junkies.

Things have definitely changed. Tourism has picked up, so the casinos aren't as freebie happy. Many of the Strip casinos charge you for parking, whether you're a guest or not.

I use Hotwire.com as well - need to look at the fine print for the resort fees they add to the advertised rate and make sure free parking is offered.

I am also a member or MGM grand and get many offers for free rooms, then all you pay is the resort fee and unfortunately parking is also a fee.  Usually Excalibur ends up being around $55 a night.

Second the rental car.

Dude both of your comments are hilarious. I needed this on such a grind of a workday.

I booked airbnb near Calico Basin. I'll bring some rat traps and cheese just in case...

Will be splurging per your recommendation and getting a car.

We are doing AirBnB in Vegas next month. There was this one place, I think it was like 30$ a night total that slept 3. We passed though, it looked like the den of a serial killer, creepy as F. Im sure you can find it if you search for it. If you rent it, you might want to take shifts sleeping.

We've ditched our campsite on a forecasted cold night and used hoteltonight to book a swanky room at the Luxor $25/nt same day. Call me a wimp but it was worth it and the wifey was stoked.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
