Heading to pcmr 1st WK of Feb, anybody have luck with Uber or Lyft out the airport? 4yrs ago we got shut down a couple times at the airport and after last call back to the hotel. An airport shuttle is 172$ round trip and it's close to 300$ roundtrip pcmr to snowbasin via any shuttle service for a day trip. Any body have any recomendations ? What are the chances of needing chains on 80? Red eye flight in an out rather not rent a suv...

Forget trying to save money, PC is not for the poor.

Typically Uber works well, not sure about the midnight to 5 am arrival times, never done that.  There are lot of people that uber drive and ski, so picking someone up at the airport and bringing them back is a thing.

Check out the train to the bus connection, slow, but it's cheap and will take you to anywhere in the Park City Area.

I-80 SLC to Park City goes over Parley's pass.  It's clear 99% of the time.  Just check the weather and watch for winter snow storm travel advisory.  Occasionally they will close it or require chains, but it's rare.  And they have the roads clear by the next day if it does get bad.

Those rates seem really high. Usually SLC-Park City is $50-$60 / person for a shared shuttle. What flight are you on and arrival time?

Shuttle's 43$ pp each way not too shabby but I've used Uberski in Vail was cheaper than a ride share and no waiting but didn't seem to have caught on in SLC yet as of last yr? Pcmr-snowybasin seems crazy high 140$ pp each way? The bus and Trax r the bomb, but stop B4 midnight, was a pain bar hopping after hours. I also recall seeing road signs requiring chains or 4wd at least once on all 4 of my trips out there, renting a Yukon not gonna happen...

Depends on which canyons. I've already lost track this season for the number of times 4x4 or chains required in BCC and LCC. We've had over 110" at Alta in just the past 22 days. Of those 22, I recall 4x4 was required for at least a dozen of them, the most recent being last night and this morning. There is also a new traction law for BCC & LCC and not all  the rental companies are up on the details yet (see below).

Chains/4x4 required in Parley's (I-80) going up to PC is extremely rare except for trucks.

Again, what time do you land?
Traction law details [from: https://updsl.org/page_canyonAlerts.php ]

Four Wheel Drive & All Wheel Drive Vehicles
Approved tires for Four Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive vehicles can be identified by an M+S or M/S (mud and snow) or a Snowflake symbol on the sidewall of the tire. These tires must be must be mounted on all four tires of the vehicle. Utah Code 41-6a-1636 requires tires to be in a safe condition. Tires without sufficient tread depth will not be effective. No bald tires! Traction devices such as chains, snow socks, tire studs are also acceptable. When the traction law is in effect, you must be equipped with traction devices or the appropriate snow tires before traveling in the Cottonwood Canyons (S.R. 210 and S.R. 190).
                   Two Wheel Drive Vehicles
The traction device requirement for two wheel drive vehicles (under 12,000 GVW) when the traction law is in effect is to have four 3 peak mountain snowflake tires (3PMSF). Traction devices such as chains, snow socks, tire studs are also acceptable. When the traction law is in effect, you must be equipped with traction devices or the appropriate snow tires before traveling in the Cottonwood Canyons (S.R. 210 and S.R. 190).
Two wheel drive vehicles MAY be denied canyon access if law enforcement believes they present a hazard to safe travel and other motorists. As a general rule vehicles equipped with aggressive snow tires will be granted access but there may be times, due to very poor road conditions or deep snow, when they are denied access. The police officer will need to make this determination based on common sense and known road condition information.

Planning to go from PC to Snowbasin?  Rent a car.

I-80/Parley's can be sketchy during a storm, and eastbound has basically shut down twice this January, but odds of this are quite low.  (The new traction law does not apply to I-80.)  You'd still come out ahead with a rental just waiting the few hours for the road to open up if there are issues.  Oh yeah, check the forecast.

I-80 can get really bad during winter storms, specifically I have heard stories of Uber drivers just going for it when their car really shouldn't be there.  Some of the scariest driving I have ever done was coming down I-80 with dozens of cars sliding off the road, and into each other,  all around me.  However if there is no storm, it should be a pleasant 40 minute drive.

Don't have any insights about cost of transportation, but I agree with the first commenter, you can't worry about cost when you vacation in Park City.

I think the new traction law does apply to I-80.  See UDOT map below:

I drove I-80 during a UDOT road weather alert situation earlier this ski season (back in early December).  I-80 was restricted to folks with 4wd and snow tires (M&S) and/or chains.  Semi traffic required to be chained up.  They had 100% inspection of all traffic entering Parleys which caused a bit of delay.  Freeway was closed, and, they exited all vehicles to the right and sent any non-compliant vehicle back at that exit around 4 miles up canyon across from the gravel pit.  I'd never seen that before this year.

But, yeah, that's pretty rare.

It's a pretty cheap trip from the East? Bos to SLC is 200 RT we stay in a hostile 45$ a night and we have season passes.                         Marc801 we're flying in at 9pm out at 12am from logan, manch and lex ky

9pm should be no problem at the airport.  We took Lyft recently arriving at that time and talked to the driver about schedule.  They like those longer milk runs.  You can always request an SUV or whatever pick up too.

Note that Sundance goes through the 2nd of Feb...so...they'll be a bunch of folks travelling to/from the airport and Park City.  And a few stay into the next week.

I am sure you are able drink them on the ride. But if the state troopers catch ya just remember everyone in the vehicle gets an open container citation, just not those doing the drinking.

All the majors onsite are "good".

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
