Best Cam Lube?

What's your favorite lube for cams - Teflon, wax, marinara sauce? I've used Triflow (telfon) for a while but it does seem to collect that fine black film.

I found some cheap silicone spray lube, works excellent. I’ve also used WD40 for work: those cams get ABUSED by our students and they still work fine.

Finish Line makes a variety of bike lubes and their Teflon spray is my usual.

I use Teflon finish line. Unlike the wax based lubes like metolius it doesn't thicken up and get sticky in the cold or stick to dirt.

One more for Teflon. Keeps the gunk out.

I have a bunch of the Metolius cam lube, so that's what I use.

If you usually just throw your rack in the dirt, or don't regularly clean your stuff, get something else.

Go to a bike shop, The chain lube is the same stuff as the Metolius but for about 1/3rd the price per ounce

+1 finish line chain lube. When it get thick, I dilute it with ronsonol lighter fluid..

Suggestions for those savages who throw their rack in the dirt...? For a friend of course.

Dip the cam heads and biners in boiling water, then spray the critical parts with some T9 aerosol bike lube. I've been doing it for many years of desert climbing.

The very same, my good sirrah. That's my favorite, but any bike chain lube will do. Just be sure the moving parts are clean (hence the boiling baptism) before using lubricant.

A pair of tongs make it easy to dip biners in the pot without getting scalded.

Oooo the tongs is a good pro tip.

I have this from my cycling days but have been hesitant to use it, not knowing exactly what's in it. As long as I'm careful not to squirt it on slings, should it be ok to lube up, wipe off any extra, and throw everything in my bag?

Graphite powder. It doesn't attract crap like somd other lubes.

Good to go! And just like with bike chains, a little goes a long way. I just pull the cam trigger a couple of times so the lube can work itself through. Some pieces need a bit more frequent love than others (microcams, X4's and Camp Photon biners).

I also really like using a large burrito-style rope bag to store my cams. In addition to keeping them from getting tangled inside my pack, the tarp is an excellent staging ground for sorting gear and racking up. Between routes, I don't clip them to anything and just throw them into the rope bag.

I use Expedia dry bags (Osprey or Sea to Summit are god too) for that.

Try Dry Moly lube. Better on metals than silicone. Resists dirt super well and a can will last a LONG time.

I try to avoid using PFAS based lubes because that shit is just bad for the environment and health, no doubt its the best option though.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
