Has anyone used the Petzl Club?

Thinking of picking up a Petzl Club for use as a static rope for ascending and miscellaneous static rope stuff (likely not hauling though if that matters). It's marketed as a semi-static canyoning/caving rope but I'm not sure why I couldn't use it for regular duty since it has a fairly low static elongation (3%) and it's EN 1891Type A rated.

Has anyone used this? Lemme know your thoughts.

It is a good rope, but not as burly as say, the Mammut Performance Static or the Maxim KM III, or any of the other workhorse static lines out there. More of a hybrid line IMO. The weave seems to trap more dirt and is more prone to fraying.

This is pretty much what I was wondering. I take it you wouldn't recommend it as a dedicated line for ascending and positioning?

Have you used the Maxim KM III as fixed lines on rock much?  I have had an absolutely awful experience with them.  Hands down I've never core shot a rope more than that rope.  I've had a 200m and 100m and both were just plain shitty for me.

Here are some general experiences I've had with statics if you are out shopping.  Hardest rope to kill for me was a Sterling polyester sheathed static.  Don't know the product name but has less than 1% elongation.  Handle is pretty darn stiff and I wouldn't really want to fixed line top rope on it, but purely as a fixed line for jugging and such it was pretty sweet.  2nd best for longevity is the SafetyPro from Sterling.  I've got a 60m that is over 10 years old now and won't die.  I've probably owned 600m of that rope and it noticeably lasted longer than other statics I've tried.  The SafetyPro is pretty bouncy for a static which is nice for tr soloing.  I've also had pretty good luck with the Edelrid Performance 10mm.  I've had about 400m of that stuff and it has generally done well.  The metolius/monster stuff is also surprising good though, it feels a bit fat and heavy for 10m.  Not a great rope for tr solo but good for pure fixed line stuff.  It has a pretty supple  handle to it but still holds up decently well to abrasion.  I've also tried some budget 10mm from Edelweiss but it performed marginally better than the Maxim KMIII.  It only seemed to core shot when it was actually on an edge where the maxim literally just exploded if it got within a few feet of sharp pebble.

But to actually answer the OP's question, I haven't actually tried the Petzl stuff yet.  Thought about picking some up next time I need more rope, so let us know if you actually get one and put some usage on it.  I wonder if it is manufactured by Edelrid, like the dynamic ropes?

Good info, thanks. I am shopping but looking for something I can pick up on the sorta cheap. I liked the idea of something with unicore so was looking at some Beal ropes but I know next to nothing about statics.

My main uses would be using it as a fixed line for jugging and using it to set up mega-extended TRs in Jtree (as an anchor material). Abrasion resistance and durability are top priorities for me. I can live with a little bit of stretch (I know, protect edges) but I mainly just want something that feels and is bomber.

The Petzl rope I am talking about has their EverFlex treatment, which makes me think it's manufactured by whoever makes the Volta (dynamic rope) but honestly I don't know what that manufacturing process looks like so I'm not sure whether it would be hard to replicate etc so who knows I guess.

Mikey, of all the rope you've used what would be your recommendation for micro trax work? Looking to get a big dedicated line for that, not so much hauling and other big wall tasks.

The only use I have ever had a static line for is as a fixed line to TR solo and as an anchor extension for TR.  I know this is pretty limited, but it sounds like what the OP is going to use it for.  Right now I have the Sterling static 9mm and a shorty Mammut static.

For TR solo I like to have at least 3% elongation, the polyester stuff typically has a much lower elongation than the nylon.

Rock n' Rescue had the KM III for a good price so I picked up 100m.  Nice red colored rope, with a tight weave for a Microtrax to grab.

My Sterling has a few "rough" spots, so I'll probably either chop it and use for anchors or repurpose as anchor line on my boat.

Ciao
