Climbing skin glue compatibility
|
I have a set of dynafit skins (made by pomica I think) that need to be reglued. The pomica brand of glue is super spendy ($30 a tube and they recommend two tubes based on my skis being 112 underfoot and 130 at the tip) |

I guess I haven't been paying close enough attention. I have used a variety of skins, and I always apply just a little of the BD Gold Label stuff, plop some parchment paper on top, run it over with the iron a few times, and call it good. Then I hang the skins out to dry, so to speak, for a day or so, and they seem to be good to go. Hope this helps. Cheers. |

Getting a skin free of glue is not difficult. |

You're good, just throw BD gold label on there as needed. Also wall to wall carpet at the tips for powder boards is a waste of weight. Trim that shit. |

Is there any benefit to the pomica glue over the BD that justifies like 2X the price? I havent used BD glue before but I havent heard any complaints. |

I have a set of those Dynafit Skins the glue was never amazing even right out of the box. A few years down the road it really lost its stick. I re glued with BD Gold from a tube, I didn’t even strip the old glue off and it’s better than the original glue ever was. This was a few years ago still no issues with them. |

I've had BD glue go 4-5 seasons just fine and it peels apart without horrible difficulty (I fold skins glue to glue in thirds). I can't see spending that much more for pomicas glue, not that there is anything wrong with it either. |

I have reglued G3 skins with BD glue, no problem; it actually improved the stick of the Alpinist Ultralight skins, which was mediocre when I got them. |

I’ve been using Pomoca skins for three years now, and will never go back to BD (or G3). I think both the glue and skins are superior. The skins never come off and the glue will stick even if I drop the sticky surface in the snow. Apply a bit of friction and it will stay on, whereas in the past with BD I’ve had to call it a day. I reglued a couple pairs of Pomoca this summer and was able to get the glue from Snowinn. One can was plenty for two pairs (liberal application, long wide skins), but I bought three cans for the future. Shipping was eight dollars. |

Glue is hurtful and offensive to my feelings. Please, don't use glue. Please buy new skins. Seriously. Regluing skins is like swapping the screen on your iphone. It's a bloody waste. These things are not designed to be reglued. They are designed to be returned for store credit after you mis-use them. |

Terry E wrote: 1. BD has some real good talent on the design side so I'd watch your mouth (no I don't work for them) 2. You're confusing design work and a cost cutting measure (for the consumer) that design most likely had no roll in.People act like its exponentially harder to cut skins with the mail opener that BD gives you. It's not that much harder nor does it take that much longer (at most a few minutes). Yeah the G3 one is nice that you don't have to shift around your skins and the offset is built in. But most consumers aren't cutting more than 1 set of skins. |
