My wife and I are moving from Chattanooga, TN to Billings, MT In Jan. We are heading to billings this week to look at houses, who has the rundown for me on the area? Mainly a pebble wrestler ( boulderer ) these days but still sport climb and could be lured into trad projects from time to time. Any info is greatly appreciated feel free to email as well. robert.m.fogle@gmail.com
I find these situations fascinating because of the culture clash and extreme change in environment. Expect the shock to take hold after about a week. Has your wife visited Billings? I would suggest counseling and arbitration right away.
EDIT: actually if this winter is anything like last year ( and it is predicted to be) the real shock will probably happen in January.
You are visiting at a good time. There will be a winter like cold front moving thru starting Sundayish. Cragging on the Rims above town is fair. Bouldering is also fair due to the soft sandstone. Steep World has just moved into a new location for your indoor climbing.
Great venues close: Fantastic bouldering in Cody, WY two hours south along with granite and limestone crags. Devils Tower, Tensleep, Lander, Bozeman...

Ok, so first, eat out at the Thai restaurant on the one way that goes west downtown, a couple blocks of 27th. There's fun Indian buffet on W 24th just N of Hewett. It's north of the mall.
We'll meet you for a beer if you're there on the Veterans Day weekend.
Don't forget your backcountry boots and your skis.
