Looking for an extra pair for bouldering while the other pairs get patched. What’s the least expensive shoe that will allow for some edging? A downturn would be nice but I don’t have my hopes up.

While not exactly the cheapest shoe on the market, I bought a pair of Mad Rock Shark 2.0 that I found really cheap, thinking they would be low performance (based on my previous experience with Mad Rock) and just my trash shoes since they were cheap. Turns out, I really like them for gym climbing and bouldering and they're fairly comfortable, at a reasonable price compared to other brands. In terms of price versus performance I was pleasantly surprised.

Checkout Sierra Trading Post, if they have your size you can usually find cheap shoes there. Sign up for their emails and you can usually get 25% off too (I get a 25% off coupon every friday, saturday, and sunday from them).

La Sportiva Cobra. Unless you need a stiffer shoe or extreme heelhooks, you can climb most things in these.

Bite the bullet and get a few shoes in rotation. As you wait for a resole on pair #1, break in pair #2. Once you get pair #1 back from the resole, those are your projecting shoes, keep pair #2 nice for the redpoint. Once pair #1 need another resole, get another pair of shoes, break those in. Once pair #1 with resole #2 comes back, those are you gym shoes. Pair #3 is your redpoint. Rotate a new pair in every few months/years.

Dunno about USA, but here in Europe that would be (read that as IMHO, please) Ocun. Crest as the go-to cheapo-but-okayish climbing shoe while the new Jett model might perform better when bouldering.

Just use eBay, two of my favorite pairs of shoes were $30 from there.
