HI-
I'll be in Palm Springs in late October and have time for one day up at Joshua Tree. I wanna go with a guide service. Any recommendations?
I am moving into trad climbing, and would like a session to build skills.
-Thanks

I was very satisfied with Cliffhanger Guides, though the guide I climbed with has since moved away from JTree.

Hey JD, I’ve been working as a guide in Josh for the past 20 years and would love to show you some memorable climbs. I work for Bob Gaines of Vertical Adventures.
If you want the guide with the most expertise, that would be a toss up between Steve Gerberding of Joshua Tree Rock Climbing School and Bob Gaines of Vertical Adventures.

Bob (Vertical Adventures) and JTRCS have both been around for a long while. Having said, if you’re just looking for a day of instruction, any one, including some of the newer outfits will serve you fine. Have fun.

Bob Gaines is the best but Tony Sartin is a close second—tied with Erik Kramer Webb.

- I’d love to recommend Erik Kramer-Webb at California Climbing School. Superb human and fantastic teacher. If you are trying to beef up your trad skills, you can’t go wrong. Bring your phone to record things or a notepad for notes because he will be happy to go over a ton of info with you. His passion for teaching, climbing, stewardship, and the Joshua Tree community is infectious.

If so...
Dave is not presently "Guiding"...
But he would be a GREAT choice, otherwise...
Side note = Dave is where my nickname "locker" comes from. Originally, It was an insult he shot my way... LMAO! It was a GREAT day, that day...

I think he means Mr. Griffith. Not that young anymore, but mega strong and a very accomplished guide.
