It's gone. Why?!?!

Expensive, food wasn’t good.

Also assuming the road closure didn’t help things. Tacos Los Gorditos closed because their employees couldn’t get up the mountain. The guy who owns the bake shop and Backroom told me it takes him 3x as long to drive down for supplies with 243 closed.

The place was sold and the new owners really didn't know what they were getting into.  The restaurant business is hard and they never took the time to get a good cook and it showed.  It used to be a Chart House a long time ago.

Idyology has had at least three owners since it assumed the name 'Idyology'. The person who first created it did a nice job of creating a nice, funky vibe and interesting food- when she sold it, it started a downhill slide. The most recent owners had slid even further, with some oddball management. (The road closures didn't help, either.)

I won't miss the most recent incarnation, but that location has good potential for a nice place, with the right vision and management. Idyllwild could use a decent gastropub (the Brewpub has good beer, but the food menu could be a lot better).

I've been there a few times and the service was below standards.  I assume locals/regulars know what to expect but outsiders I assume would have some sort of standard of service.  For example, the three times I've been there food ordered was forgotten and presumably not cooked.  One friend never received her burger.  So...  I blame management.  I'm gonna miss that place

Why are you going to miss a place with below standard service and where folks in your party regularly had their orders missed?

It was the environment.  But..  I've been recently going to the brewery in town ;-)

Y’all snooty, I thought the place was great especially after a long day climbing. Weird waitresses, good tunes, greasy food, free saltines ... what more could you ask for.

I’ve eaten a lot of hamburgers, pulled pork, and fries in my day, this place just wasn’t very good and LA prices to boot. I prefer the grease at The Lumber Mill.

Owner skipped town and bounced payroll checks. A real class act. The property is awesome though. I hope we get a new spot that has a working tap system that keeps the brews cold...

Speaking of Idyllwild ‘class acts’...this is pretty funny:

Earlier this year, the former owners of ‘Crazy Train’ (formerly known as ‘Good Times Pub’) pretty much ghosted out of the ownership of the place- they basically just stopped showing up, and got behind in their rent payments to the owner of the building. They later negotiated some of their back rent by transferring the wine/beer license to the property owner. Shortly after they left, though, they Crazy Train owners made this post to their Facebook page:

Windean deserves all of the credit for giving Idyology it's identity- especially at the time (prior to Ferro and the Brewpub), Idyology was a great alternative to Cafe Aroma. She had the funky-cool vibe vision, and a more interesting menu...and the food was actually much better at that time. It was too bad to see that vision lost as it changed hands.

I still have fond memories of the day Nick’s parents bought me dinner at Idyology as a way of saying ‘thanks’ for spending the day climbing with their son. Nice atmosphere, live music, it will be missed.

I heard "Crazy Train" was reopened by as a deli by current owner of Idyology? That closed too?!?

Dunno about the new ownership, but doesn’t seem likely- the new owners of Crazy Train (now ‘Coop’s Crazy Train’ or some such) took over a couple months ago....well before Idyology shuttered. The ‘new’ Crazy Train seems to be barely functioning at this point.

Where else in Idy can you lay in a bed and order dinner?

Ya, she was still in on Idyology and opened "Coops", then Idy shut soon after "Coops" went up. Can't remember her name.

Ya know, I bet there's a good chance that whoever takes over Idyology retains the name, the general interior, and the menu. It would be nice to see someone re-create the place in a better way, but that's probably not gonna happen. Much less expensive to just keep doing the same thing and try to do it a little bit better.

Why? You know why. You predicted its demise about a month ago when I was telling you about my crappy experience with the place. You didn't give a Nostradamus kind of prescient timeline, but I do recall you saying it wasn't going to last very long.

BTW, the live entertainment was pretty good there and I was really looking forward to laying in that bed in front of the fireplace. :(
