SMC Death Hanger Pull Test

Original Post

I replaced an old SMC hanger recently that had been up for probably close to 30 years.

It was fairly corroded, and with their reputation, I was curious what it would fail at.  A few of my friends and I took some guesses.

Before I reveal the results, any guesses from the MP crowd?

Edit:
I have been locked out. I will post results tonight when I'm allowed to post again.

Yes I used the original bolt too. I found a nut that matched threads and clamped it to the aluminum plate. The bolt did not fail.

Orientation doesn't matter. The hanger doesnt know if its upside down :)

I going in on this with complete naivety not knowing it's reputation - yes it looks rusty, but also fairly beefy and pretty modern - would clip. So, ~10kn. At least.

wasn't the issue with those 1st gen smc ones that they where prone to cracking?  I can't see if there is a crack in that picture so my guesses are:

if there is no visable crack 17kn

if there is a visable crack 2.5kn

To give you a hint... or lead you astray....

Here is a hanger of similar vintage, same design, less rust, from not too far away:

I have heard third hand reports here on MP and in books that these can fail under body weight. Hence the "death hanger" moniker.

No visible crack, but kind of hard to see with all the corrosion.
