I am probably moving to the Chelan area and was wondering about any recently developed crags around there. I saw a similar thread from a ways back that talked about some pebble hopping, but I am hoping that some trad or even sport crags have been developed recently. It would be nice to have a close after work crag. Any info is appreciated.

My family has been there nearly 20 years and I've never heard or found anything when I've been there. There might be some bouldering but most of the rock is garbage. Mazama and Leavenworth are nearest developed areas. I'd like to know if you find anything though, good luck.

I have been there a couple of times and have seen plenty of exposed rock along/near the lake when heading to Stehekin but I have never given it a close look. Anyone know what type of rock is predominant in that area?

So I’ve been looking at the east side of the river from Pateros to Chelan as well as up by Tonasket. There is potential and I believe there are routes established. I’ll do a bit more research and let you know what I find.

Bryce check the Okanogan info on mp and it should give you a bit of information and direction as to who to contact locally.

Chelan does look like a fantastic place to live with a lot of climbing an hour ish drive in just about every direction, Lworth, Mazama, the Okanogan Valley and Banks lake. I did recheck the MP Okanogan page and all the climbs listed are all easily an hour or more outside of Chelan. Any info you find is much appreciated David.

You're basically equal distance from winthrop/mazama, vantage, banks, and upper okanogan. Less than an hour from leavenworth though. There's tons of climbing at all of those spots although you'd be crazy to go to vantage or okanogan over leavenworth/mazama but the former typically have less precipitation during the winter. Haven't heard of any cragging in chelan proper however I've heard about climbing and bouldering in stehekin.

It’s been years since I went to Lworth (2015), the last time I couldn’t find a parking spot for miles up and down the icicle and decided to avoid that place on the weekends. I doubt it’s gotten better.

I doubt it’s gotten better. Icicle is full of boulderers these days. Hike 20-30 minutes off the road and you're almost guaranteed to have one of the hundreds of crags to yourself.

The rock here is absolute garbage. You can pull most of the cliffs apart with your bare hands. That being said, I've found a couple seriously hidden gems nearby. PM sent if you want to scout them with me.
Edit:. No need to keep this secret. Drive up Airport Way and you'll find them.
