We are designing a sun hoody for climbers, what features are important to you?

I have four sun hoodies. A great piece or protective gear.  I'm 59.  All that sun exposure adds up.

1. Over the helmet.  I usually climb with the hood down and belay/hike with it up.
2. No.
3. Loose but not huge.
4. Thumb loops keep that sun off the back of my hands while belaying

A button or some closure to keep hood snug enough that it doesn't blow off while facing upwind.

Long ranger, may have figured it out. Baleaf, is cheaper and do have a lot more color options.

Except instead of saying "Baleaf" they say, "NiceClimbs", fwiw.

1) Do you prefer the hood to go over or under the helmet? Over.

2) Do you wear it mostly as a baselayer? Yes.

3) Overall it should have a looser fit. I think it should have a trimmer fit (not baggy, but not skin tight)

4)Thumb loops are overrated. Yes.

Those are not going to fit over a helmet without lightly choking your neck. They are also not cut long enough to stay put under a harness. The fit of our sun hoody is designed specifically for climbers. Other qualities like UPF protection, quick drying, etc likely share similarities with other sun hoody brands.

Well I've got one right here (if you can "Baleaf" it), let's experiment:

Not too bad. A little plasticy in the hand. Patagucci feels nicer. But there are nicer ones, still.

Not for $18 though.

Oh wow, I stand corrected, that is quite long. Almost too long, like a skirt. I dunno, I'm not in love with the fit of that, but yeah maybe you're right, for $18 I think it gets the job done!

For what it's worth our M are 70cm long and L are 72cm long.

Well you do know that a harness rests above your beltline, right?

The cut of the shirt (the hoody is much different) is actually not so different than patagonia's sunshirts:

Worn casually, it looks like any ol' shirt that covers your skin. The length of the piece needs to cover your backside when you're bent over, but what I'm more important is that the sleeves are long enough (+2 ape) to cover my wrists and can be worn with the thumbies.

Well that personal attack came out of nowhere. Maybe relax, we're all going through some shit out there.

I ordered one of the Nice Climbs shirts off Amazon.  I've been super pleased!  I climbed several pitches in Eldo yesterday wearing the shirt.  It was super light weight and stretchy and felt great for climbing.  The hood fit over my helmet nicely for belay duty.  It was a perfect length and stayed tucked under my harness the whole day.   Thanks James!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
