Best water bottle to attach to harness?

You can use a scaffold knot (noose) instead of a clove hitch then just put any kind of loop at the other end to put on a carabiner.  Since it's a noose you don't have to worry about it loosening.  550 paracord grips itself pretty well for the scaffold knot and will fit on a Nalgene along side the plastic loop that attaches the cap.

Second the Hydrapak stuff. I usually carry a small pack and have one of their 1.5 bladders. You can turn it totally inside out and remove the tube so easy to clean.

Surprised no one has mentioned SIGG bottles.

Tell that to the gatorade bottle I've used for years with the cord setup.

Best was the Platypus 1L soft bottle with an integrated clip loop made of the same material as the bottle. But they don't make them anymore.

But these Survivor filter bottles are nearly identical and work really well.

Those Platyus ones were good but don't loose that cap since they are not the same threads as 20oz bottles

I hope those ones you link have the same 20oz bottle thread pitch

^those soft bottles are too long/tall to hang from your harness.

Gatorade bottles - 12, 20, or 32 oz = much better. 12oz is probably a bit small unless you want lightweight as a leader. The 20oz works for my wife and I to share on shorter/colder routes. Longer/warmer days, I carry the 20oz, she'll have the 32oz.

UL and ultracheap. Recyclable when you need to replace. I was turned onto their use when I needed a new bottle a couple years ago - sold as soon as I tried it. One of the positive MP recommendations, for once.

To each their own! I much prefer this style when climbing longer/harder than a Gatorade or similar as the soft sidedness is more comfortable when your harness is crowded with other crap / on the approach when stuff is jingeling around.

I do take a pack when the route warrants it.. but generally not for a 2 or 3 pitch climb with a short approach i.e. Gunks.

Packs are great.. and bladders are awesome when using a pack... but I use a pack more in places like red rocks with longer routes

Missed the OP's reference to 2-3 pitches. No pack needed, nor do you need any water. You can go a very long time without it.

PS Hydrapaks taste like plastic = lame.

I've been using one of these puppies for over a year. Not damage to the loop...it's urethane so it's pretty bulletproof. To dry the bottle I empty it, turn it upside-down for a while the back right-side-up and, overnight, it's dry. I think if you poke around on YouTube you can find a video of someone driving over one in a car. I just hang them off a back gear loop and they handle the abuse pretty well. So far no failures.

Hydrapack 500 ml bottle.

Od course there are lots of sizes available. The military uses 1000 gallon ones for the desert.

I've got about a dozen hydrapak products, that are pretty regularly left in my hot truck while I'm at work, then drank, and I STILL don't taste anything out of them. Ya either dunno what you're talking about, or you're the kinda person who drinks Evian.

Also the rubber loops on my stows have held up to a year of hard abuse hanging off packs and harness and are still going strong, I even took them up a chimney in the fishers and thought they were done for.  Nope.

PS: reusing the kinda plastic in beverage bottles isn't a bright idea.

I use those exact same Survivor Filter Collapsible Canteens.

Cheap, easy enough to clean, great attachment point, and collapse flat when they're empty.

Lots of * (one star) hydrrak reviews. Reused Gatorade bottle hasn't leaked once, cracked, or tasted weird.

for anyone that wants to, buy a clearance 500 ml hydrapak off REI for $10 and buy a full of Gatorade bottle for $1 or less and do a comparison

The best place to store water is in your body. If you are drinking a few sips at each belay , you might consider drinking all that and a bit more before you head up .

Or just drink your own urine

It doesn’t look pretty but a little bit of hot glue can prevent that. This is my .5L Nalgene setup:

I prefer an aluminum water bottles with a loop built into the lid, or a cord taped on. Hydroflask even keep your water cold they're just a bit heavier. Plastic went out with the nineties.

Are www.sigg.com not available in the states? Swiss made and SUPER light.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
