Driving Route & Popular Crag Advice: Boulder, CO to Portland, OR

Some of you may have done this drive, or taken trips in either direction, heading to the PNW from Colorado.
Looking for a random gathering of opinions. Some climbing days (1-3), and camping along the way. I am moving to Portland.
What crags do you recommend along the way?

I am considering driving:
1. Northwest route:  Hwy 80-84 - From Boulder, CO Through Vedauwoo, WY, Salt Lake City/Ogden, UT, Boise, ID, La Grande, OR, Mt. Hood, OR > Portland, OR
2. Southwest route: - From Boulder, CO Through Moab, UT, Joe's Valley/Orangeville, UT (because, I have to, come on), Red Rocks, NV, Joshua Tree, CA, Bishop, CA, Yosemite, CA, Mt. Shasta (because it's scenic), Ashland, OR > Portland, OR

Do you like smooth hand cracks, or wide ones filled with sharp pebbles that make you bleed?

When are you doing this? The rain/snow season lurks just around the corner and could really decide the fun/misery of this trip.

City of Rocks isn't far off the freeway, in Western mileage lol! It's an easy half day from SLC or Boise, and a long day to Smith. But, again, that season might ​shift in the next couple weeks. Or not.

You'll be staring at volcanoes anytime the gloom lifts in Portland. No reason to go by Mount Shasta, it's just another another pretty face in the crowd, and not even the prettiest, IMO, unless it's on a bucket list for some reason.

Used to live in Boulder, with family in Portland. Dierkes Lake, outside of Twin Falls, is halfway and a really nice park.
