The petzl adjama sucks

  • So, after a rather disappointing experience with a petzl adjama (garbage loops, endless taint pinching and an already fuzzy belay loop) im looking for another harness for work and play. I'm debating going back to the dead bird harness for general climbing but am interested in thoughts on the bd solution guide.
I do have a misty titan, for walls and aid. I do not want a Cadillac lmao

Let me know your ideal harness!

I’ve had a solution guide for a few months, it’s for sure the most comfortable harness I have owned and fits me perfectly. The gear loops are pretty nice and big BUT they are very shallow and don’t stick out far enough. Only complaint. I can still throw a double rack on pretty easily though. Bomber fabric though, still looks brand new.

I tried on the Solution after seeing rave reviews but couldn’t get a comfortable fit.  Then again, I’m used to the Cadillac so it might have just ruined all other harnesses for me.

Arcteryx harness

I have had mammut, petzl adjama and cadillac harnesses in the past, and the arcteryx blows them all away.

My current Arcteryx harness is super comfortable when whipping and more comfortable than the above for hanging belays. For trad climbing, the loops are so big that I barely use the back 2 loops even with a double+ rack. The only downside is that they only go on sale maybe once a year. I would argue that they are worth the cost.

Arc'teryx Warp harnesses even have advantages when you're not wearing them. When approach times are measured not in minutes but in hours, or even days, you come to appreciate how little space they occupy when folded up in your pack. Yes, they fold.

EDIT: Try that with an Edelrid.

Bigger loops than the regular solution? Those thangs are teeny!

That sucks because the first gen Adjamas were awesome.  Over the years they've dummied them down, I suspect to push people toward the higher dollar harnesses.

Check out dead bird. Worth the money.

IMO the Edelrids are not given the credit they deserve, I own the Cyrus and I bet the Ace is a winner. The Ace is Tommy Caldwell’s harness btw

Bigger, yeah, as in wider (plus the fifth one in the back) but they lie too close to the body to be easy to use. But they're fine.

You forgot to mention that the gear loops breakI know two different people who dropped a rack of cams (thank goodness on a single-pitch climb) because their gear loops broke and dumped everything.  I shoe-gooed mine.  Here's hoping it holds up.

The Fl-365 is great.

Solution guide vote here also, great in the gym and full day multi pitch

Absolutely loved my regular solution and just got the solution guide after my solution wore out. The solution guide is everything the solution is but better! With the exception of big wall climbing, I don't know why you wouldn't want the solution guide. Can easily fit a double rack on it, durable construction, and the fifth gear loop on the back is awesome for storing stuff you won't be pulling off your harness mid-pitch like a nut tool, ATC, etc. And the weight/compactability is great as well. 10/10 would recommend!

I think the higher end Aquila is even worse than the Adjama. Awful gear loop design on these things.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
