Boulder Canyon is closed until further notice due to a large rock fall while blasting. No timeline yet.

They won't be done until 2021?!?!?
I went climbing at Avalon on Sunday and the traffic was slow and the three single-lane areas had about 10 minute waits.
Have any climbs been destroyed with all of the blasting?

I spoke with the access fund/cdot liaison roughly 40% of established climbs have been destroyed or altered.

I think they're going to blast Goofy Spire when they do the full day closure on the 19th to "remove potentially unstable rock ledge above Boulder Canyon "
Looking at this map:

The right (east) most arrow looks like it's right there.
Shame to see so much rock destroyed for this project

40% of the established routes!?! Most of the stuff they've been blasting has been road cuts which is illegal to climb on anyways.

Who the hell agrees to these crazy plans? So much unnecessary carnage... almost as ugly as my ex-wife.

I think he was trolling tbh, but that's why i wanted to mention that they might be blasting Goofy Spire in a couple weeks. It's very much climbable and i doubt it poses any real threat to the road. What the hell does "Potentially unstable" even mean in this case? The only way it'll fall is if some idiot puts dynamite in it

Can you climb in boulder canyon this weekend. The cdot  website is vague about weekends, has anyone been climbing there. I assume it’s open but just want clarification.

It'll be open. Not least to keep Eldora ski resort in business.

Itll be open, and you can totally climb. some parking areas may be closed but it should be easy to feel it out.

Latest update: they'll be done Dec 2020 now (instead of Sep 2021) because they eliminated two areas they were going to scrape.  Also, full closures end next month.

Does anybody know where to find parking in the canyon? I went up and couldn't find anywhere. Especially not for blob rock or the dome.

Had a similar issue last week - seemed like almost nothing was open early on - the upper areas starting around Nip/Tuck crag and Castle Rock had open pullouts

Blob (among other nearby formations) is closing in a couple days for raptors, so please make sure you check those raptor closures before just climbing wherever there is parking (starting Feb 1)!

I got yelled at trying to park for Animal World last week. They had it coned off as a single lane from boulder falls well past Easter Rock, not doing any work in 95% of the coned off area but not allowing you to park either. Really really annoying to drive up there to try and get a route or 2 in only to get shut down. This project has gotten out of hand imho.

Do you have more info about raptor closures? This is the link on the Blob rock page and it doesn't specify exactly which areas are closed. https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/arp/recreation/climbing/recarea/?recid=40354&actid=37

IIRC the entirety of Blob rock is closed. Did you have particular route in mind?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
