How long does it take to Chicken Out? Mt Borah.
|
I am considering attempting the Chicken Out route next week while on a road trip. Trying to get some action in on a non climbing trip. |
|
I took the photo from the highway last week Friday. Small amount of snow on the saddle after the chicken out portion of the ridge. My guess is no pons/tool is needed to cross it. |

I'd guess somewhere between Luke's blistering round trip time of 2:21:11 and 22 hours. Really depends on how fit you are. |

This time of year a bunch of boy scouts with old pot belly scout leaders would of gang banged it repeatedly. You should be fine c2c before the sun goes down. |

Was there last week. We did it in 8 hours total, not including lunch at the summit, I was not prepared for the steepness. If you are comfortable on snow/ice then the snow bridge can be done without any gear, my group would’ve preferred to have had an ice axe in case we slipped but all made it across fine. Conditions were mild, bit cold at 5am but hot by the descent. |

8 hours round trip for a moderately fit person! The best route on the ridge is to stay on top and not go left nor right. That will allow you to hit the snow bridge on flatter terrain. Have fun! |

It's 6k elevation gain and many miles of mostly steep and sharp angular rocky terrain. Pretty easy to know if you are prepared...if you have recently done a steep 6k day you are likely prepared. 12 hrs CTC would be the high end of casual for most weekend warriors. |
