In this weeks Weekend Whipper, what kind of camera is mounted on his head? This is the first time i've seen a helmet mounted camera that actually has enjoyable footy of the person climbing.

i can never get over how many gumbies can't manage to keep the rope out from behind their leg.  it was painful to watch this guy....

I think that this camera is a 360 degree setup... The blurring lines seem to show some splicing of frames.

  • GoPro has the Fusion which is a 360 camera but it's relatively heavy and tall so it's very noticeable and difficult to balance with when attached to a helmet. It also has an atrocious editing environment whether it's from the mobile app or the computer application.
  • Garmin has the VIRB but I've not heard of anyone that uses one
  • The Rylo360 is apparently good but I've no experience with it
  • Insta360 ONE X has promise as well.

All of these action cameras will automatically stitch together the front and back footage into a 360 spherical view and they will mask/remove any selfie stick being used to hold the camera up. Biggest concern when purchasing is the size and bulkiness and the ability to edit and work with the footage in post.

Very cool. Thank you for the detailed explanation Kevin. I had no idea 360 cams were a thing!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
