Seems like patagonia discontinued these? Thought people really liked them, anyone know if they'll be putting new ones out later this season?

From talk on other sites it sounds like they are redesigning them, much like the nano air pants that they discontinued to redesign.

It's the old "This product is awesome so let's stop selling it and needlessly redesign it!"

is the trend to redesign it with less durable fabric to save weight?

Have you checked out the Nano-Air Light Hybrid Hoody? It is in a similar class to the Nano-Air light pullover. I actually find the fit to be a bit better with the hybrid piece.
I know testing has been done for new face and liner fabric for the pullover and I think it might be coming back for Fall19 (though I'm not 100% sure on this). So that is just around the corner. And as far as I can tell this isn't a full redesign like the nano air light pants. It will just be updated fabrics.

Patagonia can't keep anything stable in their line, including how they cut stuff. It makes replacing stuff difficult and keeps me from being the gushing Patagonia fanboy I want to be. Also their t-shirts are thin trash these days. I'm bitter about it.

And regarding the fabrics for the Nano Air vs Nano Air Light I think they were always slightly different fabrics. Though I honestly don't pay super close attention to those details and let the more serious gear dorks do that.

Somewhat related: I have been impressed with the durability of my nano air hoody (bought spring 2016) but I've been wondering if the face fabric was changed for the more recent versions. Yes, in the 2016/2017 they increased from 20D to 30D for the shell material. I have one from that year, noticable improved durability but still have see some pilling. They also improved the wrist cuff design and made one of the hip pockets a packable pocket.

I wish the hood was slightly larger. It's way too tight to be over a helmet.

I have done it a few times but I always find the chin strap on my helmet to be annoying when its used like that. Its like there's not quite enough material on the front to keep the chinstrap of your helmet outside like on the R1. Otherwise I absolutely love the thing!

Dude, you nailed it - I have the same issue! Add in the fact the hood creeps down over my eyes after looking up & down so much during long belays. If the hood fit over the damn helmet, all this would be mitigated!
