Hi,

What is the camping situation like on indy pass, especially on the july 4th weekend? From my research, it appears that the free dispersed camping is off Lincoln creek road. Does anyone have experience with that area on a holiday weekend? Or am I basically out of luck?

Thanks!

In my experience, all the paid campsites fill up fast, as do the first 5 or 10 primitive ones on Lincoln Creek. If you have a nice 4WD with high clearance, youll probably have some luck further up, but don't quote me on that as i always turn around at that point.

Try Buena Vista, better vibes and climbing anyways.

If you leave tonight you might get a site.

Even paid spots would be taken at this point?

I was there on a non-holiday weekend last summer and by Friday night we got one of the last primitive spots far up the road and needed our higher clearance outback to get there. It's possible to find something, but the sooner you get there the better. It's kind of a multi use area, so folks that are doing other things in the area, not just climbing, will be contributing to the volume of campers.

Thanks. So it sounds like unless I got there like today, there is a low chance of getting a campsite, much less a free one.

Ya, I just saw a post from 3 days ago stating Lincoln creek is closed.

Sounds like camping may not be good this weekend...

Lincoln creek pay camping just reopened. It got taken out by a huge avy. I didn’t notice a closed gate to the dispersed camping just past there. Nonetheless, finding camping on the pass is not easy. People come from all over the country to camp for days or even weeks up there.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
