Vintage Alpenlite, made in Claremont, CA - This may have appeal to a small nitche here. - A divided pack with 6 external pockets. The external frame is unique in that it has a bottom strut extension of the frame enabling the pack to stand upright when accessing the interior ...... if you are on a fairly level surface. This is also where you might carry a sleeping bag.

  • 6 ounce nylon pack cloth
  • Aircraft grade, heliarc welded frame with a removable hold open bar for easier access into the pack.
  • Mesh backband, 3 positions on the frame padded hipbelt and shoulder straps.
  • Maximum torso length is 18″. Minimum is 16″
  • Padded section of the hipbelt is 23″. The threading-through-webbing is 16″ and the buckle has 3″ of webbing beyond the padding.
  • Weight is 4 lbs 5oz.

The pack is in excellent lightly used condition. The fabric coating is not peeling, there are no worn spots and except for some dirt stains on the outside of the top left hand pocket, it is clean. Asking $45.00 plus the cost of shipping from 80517. Packaging will be at least 1&1/4 lbs. Final cost will be determined prior to your payment. PPFF or Venmo.

I've used this Alpenlite backpack in the Desolation Wilderness nearly every year since I got it new in the early 80's, as best as I can remember.  I'm starting to get stares and comments about my "old school" backpack when I'm on the trail. I think it's the greatest pack ever. Can anyone tell me more about it?

There are members of trailspace.com and backpackinglight.com who are knowledgeable about gear history. I like the front loading aspect of yours.
