Multipitch Chalkbag w/ zipper pocket big enough for your phone? - OR what are other ways you bring your phone up the crag?

I seem to remember  a thread here about some chalkbags which has some nice and roomy zipper pockets which fit these new models of phones.  I think one of the recommendations was for a bag made from a company called "Tufa"?  I have a samsung s9+ and this thing is absolutely ginormous and a huge pain in the butt to get out of my pocket when I want to snap a pic / video.  it's roughly 3.5 x 6 3/4 with the case.

Why not just get a small camera?  I have a Panasonic Lumix that takes decent pix, and is about the size of a pack of those shorty cigarettes. Will take video as well. saves to a SIM card for easy downloading to your computer.

I use a Flip Belt that is normally used for running. It securely holds the phone and doesn't interfere with the harness at all. It works well to hold any number of small items that need to be semi-easily accessible as well.

Tufa climbing cache chalk bag. Hand made in the US. Has a pocket that I keep my phone, nail clippers, lighter and a clif bar in.

I wish I didn't have a roll of fat where that belt would go Lol. Looks super low profile and wouldn't get in the way of a rack.

Seriously, I don't carry a phone while climbing...what is the point? If I get hurt, my phone is in my pack.

Even if zippered pocket is large enough, not sure you'd want to put a phone in there.  I've been using zippered pocket chalk bags for I-don't-know-how-long to carry a tiny headlamp, small knife, and small first aid kit and there's not a bag that I've had (several brands) that doesn't "leak" chalk dust into the pocket, so the headlamp and FA kit go into their own small zip-lock bags, but even then some dust seems to get through.

I tried the zipper pocket of my chalkbag, and found some chalk either got through or was previously transferred to the pocket without me noticing.  Dust got in the phone and all my pictures suddenly looked like they were part of a 1980's dream sequence.  Not good.

I had an old pair of Patagonia guide simples where the thigh pocket had blown out at the bottom.  Before it blew out, it was a little too short for my Samsung.  I then sewed a pocket to my pocket, and that pocket had a pocket, so i now have a place for my phone and my chap-stick. I put my phone in the zipper part, which is now long enough because the bottom is blown out, but the phone is held in place by the jeans pocket I sewed to the blown out pocket.

I offer this photo for reference. Don't be intimidated by my craftsmanship ;)

Phone in chalkbag seems like a disaster waiting to happen.  I’d be worried about it untying/unclipping, and the extra weight would be annoying.  Just wear pants with a side zipper pocket like Prana Zion, etc.

Lol @ 40 bucks for a chalk bag. Regardless of how nice it is/american made, still a waste of money imo

The Tufa Cache is the one for a phone... goes in from the top.

Otterbox case with a lanyard attached

I use this case, girth it to my harness and keep my phone in my pocket. If I want to take photos up top I can just leave it dangling off my harness, take photos as I want and then drop it the second I'm done with it.

Also, had the chance to durability test the case - I'm an idiot and set my phone on top of my car and drove off, phone hit the pavement at 60 mph, screen is totally shattered but the case and phone are completely functional. I was pretty blown away.

Since we're discussing,
The Ringke Fusion is a minimal phone case (and cheap) that has a spot to attach a lanyard. When I take pics on the cliff I install a little lanyard and slip my hand through it before taking my phone out of my pocket.
It's really hard to Google cases with this feature.

A phone in a chalk bag seems like a bad idea for a couple of glaring reasons!

Maybe put you "wall snacks" in the chalk bag pocket and put your phone in your pants pocket ; )

getting your phone out of your front pocket while in a weighted harness isn't easy.

^sure it is...do it all the time. Kind of like getting it out of your pocket while seat belted in a car = no problem for me but I'm thin...

I have one of those pop sockets on my phone to I feel more confident holding my phone over a cliff, definitely makes it harder to get in and out of the pocket. I just made another thread this morning about trying to find pants where the phone fits in a side pocket so I don't have to worry about leg loops.

I tend to wear pants with a side pocket, like Zions, so that's where my phone goes. But I've also seen people carry a 2nd chalk bag (that has never held chalk) as a way of bringing along a phone, keys, etc. Better than putting your phone in a bag with chalk.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
