Rope burn on lead fall

Just wanted to share a minor (and more importantly preventable) injury from yesterday following a lead fall. I'm sure this is already obvious to many of you but maybe this will help at least someone.

Lime Kiln Canyon on a sunny early summer day- 3 bolts upon  some sandbagged 5.9 slab, I'm pulling the rope with my left hand to clip the 4th when my foot unexpectedly pops sending me down 10 or 12 feet and ripping a conservative amount of skin in the process. Falls being pretty rare for me (yes I probably don't climb hard enough), my reaction was stupor and stillness during the fall. While passing the 3rd bold and approaching the 2nd, the rope (obviously) got under tension with my left hand loosely holding it from the failed clipping attempt, resulting in a painful rope burn on a couple fingers and the top of my hand.

Learning
Awareness of the rope at the beginning of the fall would have prevented some of the damage.

At least you didn't try to grab a draw on your way down!
