Shortest Approach for Owens River Gorge/Bishop
|
I will be in Bishop this week but I have to work, so won’t be able to start climbing until the evenings. |

central gorge is quickest access |

If you're short on time the north entrance is a good option. Best go with someone who knows where the trail heads down from the road, it's obvious but it's easy to walk by it too. You'll start passing good but short routes even before you're all the way down in the gorge. What grade routes are you looking for? |

We recently added the ability to add approach trails to areas. It looks like there's one (yellow line) for Central Gorge: https://www.mountainproject.com/map/105843226/owens-river-gorge If any of you are game to add a few other approach trails to the gorge, just go to the area page and look for the "Add To Page" dropdown at the upper right: |

splitclimber wrote: central gorge is quickest access Do you really think so? Personally I have the feeling it takes me less time to get in via the upper Gorge entrance than down the middle Gorge trail. I've never timed it. Maybe it only feels shorter because it's easier. |

Hannah if you factor in driving time, there are some areas in Pine Creek that might take less time to get to than anything in the Gorge. |

Upper gorge... then hit Gotham city!!! |

In Pine Creek, I'm thinking the Mustache Wall area, lower PSOM/Gold Wall, or Fashion Slabs, are the fastest approaches. It's a bit of a drive up Pine Creek Rd, but it still may be less time than the drive into the Gorge parking areas. |
