Hey there guys,
I am heading to Peru, Huaraz to climb.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a great place to buy gear in decent prices, especially shoes.
Looking for recommendations at Cusco, Lima and Huaraz.
Thanks for the help!

Huaraz will be easiest to find gear, but your will pay at least US retail prices, sometimes more depending on the gear. I'd bet you'd find better prices in Lima, but requires a trim into the city from the airport.

Many of the gear shops in Huaraz are within easy walking distance. Best to walk around for an hour to compare prices and selection before pulling the trigger.

if you are heading there from the states, then this forum is a great spot to find stuff, as is geartrade, ebay, local REI garage sale, etc....

You will do better to take your gear with you to Huaraz and then sell it there when you are done. They don't have access to the deals or the gear choices you will find here.

You will save money and time by buying gear in the states or where ever you live, if you can.
You will probbably be able to find some boots, crampons, and an ice axe, but you won’t have the greatest selection of type/ size because there are no big retailers

when i was there about two years ago, a guide group i was with was actually having some of their repeat guests bring equipment purchased at REI because it is so much cheaper or just not even available in Peru
