Hey everyone - have a trip planned to Ottawa soon and am hoping to get out for some trad and sport climbing while there. Will be staying in the City so something relatively close would be nice. Anyone have any suggestions?

While I have no personal familiarity with the area, I know that there are a number of climbing areas in the Ottawa vicinity. I believe that all are granitic/metamorphic rock formations that are part of the Canadian Shield--some of the oldest exposed rocks on the planet. Several of the most-developed areas are along the Ottawa River, in particular the cliffs around Kingston Mills have been climbed on for many years. I'm pretty sure that there is an Ottawa Section of the Alpine Club of Canada that might be a good place to look for more information.

Hey! There’s some good climbing about 30 minutes away in Gatineau Park, or if you don’t mind a drive, there’s some great stuff in Calabogie!
Gatineau has lots of trad, and some bolted routes.
*if you really don’t mind a drive Bon Echo has some EXCELLENT trad climbing (2hr drive)

I know nothing of the area, just wanted to point you toward the climbing area map that may help (in case you didn't already know about it): https://www.mountainproject.com/map/105948616/ontario
Zooming in on Ottawa shows any areas that have been entered into MountainProject's database.

I'm from Ottawa, so personally familiar with the area, and with most of the climbing  (though not bouldering) areas around.

Currently the best (most complete & up-to-date) online database I know of for climbing around Ottawa is on thecrag.com .  Ottawa is on the border between Ontario and Quebec, so you'd want to look at both regions.

There is nothing that is readily accessible (beyond maybe a couple minor boulders) for climbing without having a car -- the closest you'd be looking would be about 30-40 minutes driving time from central Ottawa.

What grade range are you looking to climb?  When are you likely to be here?

Within an hour's drive: Gatineau Park / Luskville / Eardley escarpment (different names -- same area).
Within 1.5 hours drive: Calabogie, Lac Sam, Mont Rigaud
Within 2 hours drive: Montagne d'Argent, some smaller crags west of Ottawa
Within 3 hours drive: Bon Echo (boat approach), Val David, The Weir/Mont Larose, several smaller crags in the Laurentians
Within 4 hours drive: the Adirondacks.

Someone mentioned Kingston Mills -- yes there's climbing there; no it isn't worth the drive from Ottawa.

Drop me a private message if you want to discuss in more detail, too.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
