Hey,

We made a climbing hold from solid aluminum. What do you think?

I mean, it looks like a caste piece of aluminum that got polished up in some ares. It's neat. I assume its just for fun.

EDIT: I think it would be cool if a gym had a bonus line in the corner with a bunch of these with WD40 on them. If you send you get a free month membership.

Seriously? Aluminum melts at 1200 degrees... my "flash" would liquify those. Call me when you cast some bronze ones.

Joking aside , those look pretty cool.

That polish looks good, but it’s not as slick as BoCan granite..

Looks awesome.  Would definitely hurt more than plastic if you crack a knee or elbow into it...

My gym has some tiny foot jibs made out of milled aluminum. They're nearly useless and they tear up your shoes real fast.

I love those terrible metal footholds because they are so terrible.
Hard to convince the gym to set with them though

Missed all these replies till now, my bad.

Ross: Think the WD40 would add a few grades to any route.

Brian: We might actually make some out of Gunmetal Brass, see if your flash can liquify that.

Ned: Interesting look, thanks for linking it.

Andrew: Yeh those sharp edges are a killer. Hopefully this texture is a bit kinder to shoes / skin.

Mark: Haha yeh, keep the pressure on.

Update: We tested the texture grip / durability over 5 weeks, here's a video of the route. Super happy with the performance so going to make a full set out of metal, the ones in the photos below. Let us know what you think.

I pictured something different when I read the title.

As a former art student, sand castings with cast iron would have a lot of potential

Haha not quite.

Why do you reckon iron? We just went with aluminium just because it's more lightweight and polishes up nicely.

Make a set of tiny hole ones that can withstand the crowbar effect of an ice axe. They make metal holds for dry tooling and mixed climbing

28 pounds for 4 small foot jibs? you can get 10 for 5 bucks from atomik  with their friday foothold deal if they are in stock....i dont care what they are made from if they work.....

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
