Belay jacket comparable to Montbell Mirage parka

I'm looking to swap my medium-use down belay jacket (Nilas parka, 24 oz size L) for something lighter.
This would not be for active climbing use, so does not need super durable fabrics.

The Montbell Mirage parka seems a good fit (14 oz; 5.8 oz 900+ down), but is just discontinued and no longer available in my size.

What other options of the same weight (<15 oz is size L) do people recommend?
I also looked at eg FF Helios, but those are heavier in my size (18-19 oz) and not work the smaller weight savings over the Nilas.

Even if you're only belaying its nice to have a decent face fabric. If you are wearing a belay jacket there is a good chance you also have lots of pointy things hanging from your harness! What will you be using it for? A lot also depends on fit. What is your body type? Arm length? What will you typically have under it? Will you ever sleep in it?

Ghost Whisperer by Mountain Hardwear is 8 ounces with hoody. 800 fill and does good for keeping warm. It self packs into a pocket. It's possible to pack into a sack down to the size of a tennis ball. They're expensive but I got mine half off on MH website. I love it.

The green Mirage is available in large

But I would personally order the very similar Altiplano from Montbell Japan:

The Altiplano is $269. The Mirage, if it was available currently, is $212

I’ve ordered from Montbell Japan a few times. Shipping is free and fast, and the prices are generally way better than the US site

Interesting, thanks for the thoughts Brian on ordering from Montbell Japan.

Why would you order Altiplano instead of Mirage?

Oh just because it’s available and cheaper than the US Mirage. Otherwise order the Mirage from Japan and wait on the backorder

Gotcha :)
Odd, on their site Altiplano looks more expensive than Mirage.

Also, Altiplano looks like it has a slightly tougher outer fabric (10 vs 7 denier)

The Altiplano from Japan is more expensive than the Mirage from Japan but cheaper than the Mirage from the US

Brian, when you ordered from Montbell Japan, what was customs' import fee?

Up to $800 is duty free. I paid nothing

Just remember the sizing WILL be different

That’s a good point. The Mirage from the Japanese site is actually the one made for US markets, and it will fit the same. Here is its sizing chart:

A large US Mirage is a 104-109 cm chest and 86-92 cm waist.
The Altiplano’s sizing chart is here:

The XL Altiplano has a 101-107 cm chest and 87-93 cm waist.

To respond and close out this thread for now: I ordered the Mirage from Montbell US  (Japan is out of stock).
Size L is too short for me, so I'm going with XL (I'm a bit over 6' height)

It seems a nice jacket, comfortable and warm, but yes -- very fragile.
When the Altiplano becomes available in the fall, I may sell the Mirage and switch: Altiplano has 10-d fabric compared to the 7-d of the Mirage.

Thanks for the thought to check that out.

how do you find it compares to the Nilas?
