Red rocks April vs May
|
Want to get out to red rocks to climb this spring. Have a window mid April but it’s shorter than ideal. I can probably get more time in May but wondering if it’s better to do the slightly shorter trip mid April (5 days) or do a week in the first half of May? Would prefer it not be super hot. |

May is much better time for a trip, it's not very hot, yet and isn't too cold. Perfect weather for my taste. You can check out weather here https://weather.com/weather/monthly/l/Red+Rocks+State+Park+11345:19:US . I hope it was helpful. |

For me personally, May tends to be getting a bit too hot for my taste. |

Ken Noyce wrote: Yeah I went to red rocks last week of March and it was already getting hot depending on the area and amount of sun, which since it's a desert is quite a lot - unless it's raining and then you can't climb for other reasons. Fun fact if you got to the Red Rocks mountain project page it will show you the "peak season" for Red Rocks or any given area. According to MP April is better than May. |

More daylight in May. There IS something called "shade" and if it is too hot in the sun and usually behaves one to find it, Red Rock has a fair amount if this "shade" available. Of course if you are a VIC (Very Important Climber) with a very narrow window of acceptable temperature, humidity, hydration... then by the 2nd half if May you will be able to find a lot of excuses not to send. |

Red Rock Canyon NCA is in Nevada. |

Obviously you can climb there in either April or May, but if given a choice, I'd say that the majority of climbers would choose April. Funny thing, the amount of daylight is usually at the very bottom of my list of things that I look for when choosing a climbing area, temperature is near the top of the list. |
