Hello I'm going to be traveling through the southern Alps and plan on getting some climbing in. I am mostly a sport climber and tend to stay close to the ground (limited multi-pitch experience). I'd love to talk to someone who may be able to point me towards any helpful information. I am going to stay in Interlaken, Innsbruck, and the Dolomites. Anyone know of good guidebooks or worthwhile crags to drop by? Looking for climbs between 6a and 7a. Thanks

Rockfax Dolomites book was accurate and helpful, used it for a week based out of Alleghe...worth the cash.

Don't know the Austrian scene, but I can assure you the food and coffee is better the farther south you go. I'm not biased at all. Ha!

Rifugio Scoiattoli epic, homemade pasta/tiramisu, the works....100m from sport routes. It's on the Cinque Torri ski area, above Cortina.

Go huge, dude, enjoy! If you need a guide while there, Alberto deGiuli is an awesome dude, on FB, speaks English perfectly.

There are plenty of quality crags, including many single pitch and short multi-pitch options, mostly well-bolted, within easy reach of Interlaken, with a choice of climbing on either granite or limestone (with a few other rock types thrown in as well). I don't have my information immediately at hand to make specific recommendations, but check out the ClimbEurope website. They sell a comprehensive selection of guidebooks including, I think, one specifically for Interlaken sport climbing. There is also an excellent series of guidebooks---Schweiz Plaisir (6a--easy 5.10--and below) and Extrem (6a and up) covering many crags with very good topos. I believe that Interlaken is in the "Sud" volumes.

Pretty fair info on the Innsbruck area and the Dolomites here on the 'proj.

Click around on this website for some local info on Austria:

Useful info here:

You can get the local guidebook at the tourist office as mentioned in the above link.

The Dolomites are a huge area.  Any idear where you'll be?

As for the Dolomites things are a little up in the air. I am leaning towards spending time in Cortina

When will you be in Innsbruck? The 'best-of' sport climbing guidebook here has some 5000 routes, but it depends on the season as to where you should go.

Salzburg from 5/7-5/9
I'll be in Innsbruck from 5/10-5/15
Interlaken from 5/16-5/20
Somewhere in the Dolomites from 5/22-5/30

Checkout to this website for free topos of some of the crags in Interlaken. The Hole Topo has a map where the different crags are.

Fun trip!

I think you will be able to have a ton of fun in some higher elevation spots. I would stay away from the areas directly around innsbruck as they will be too hot. These areas are all 30 min -> 1 hour away.
1) Chinesische Mauer: https://www.climbers-paradise.com/en/sport-climbing-olympiaregion-seefeld/location/leutasch-chinesische-mauer/
Limestone climbing in a beautiful setting near the border with Germany. Topo available in the parking lot in a box usually.
2) Oberried/ Engelswand/ Nosslach in Otztal: https://www.climbers-paradise.com/en/sport-climbing-oetztal/location/tumpen-engelswand/

Superlative Granite sport climbing in an idyllic valley.
3) Zillertal area: https://www.mountainproject.com/area/114792478/zillertal
There's a whole 800 route or so guidebook for this place. It is stunning granite sport climbing in a prototypical austrian valley.

Let me know if you have any more questions. I think those areas will keep you busy for the days you are in Innsbruck area.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
