I’m looking for suggestions on spots that I’d be able to camp, climb and bring my dog for a day or two not too far out of SLC.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you!

American Fork canyon. Not sure when the road opens up to the reservoir, but past the reservoir is free camping. Short drive back to the main canyon for the climbing. High Uintas are also good later in the summer (Ruth Lake).

Hey Alex, we've got a sister site Camping Project over on REI.com where we're hoping to address just such questions. It's still in mvp stage, but thought it might be worth a look for you:

EDIT:  let me know what you think

A reminder that dogs are not allowed in Big or Little Cottonwood Canyons.
The average fine for a watershed violation for your first offense is $650.

Thank you, I’ll be sure to check it out. Struggling to find dog friendly camping and climbing for a weekend trip. I’ll jump over and ask there as well.

Millcreek Canyon is dog friendly if I'm not mistaken. Definitely the closest think to SLC. The Uintas are great too, but obviously it takes a drive to get there.

Only backcountry camping is allowed in Millcreek Canyon. Camping must be at least 1/2 mile off the road and 200 feet from trails, developed areas and water.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
