Hi.  I want to climb Simulkrime at Yosemite, but it says there are 5th class moves, and I was wondering what protection would you guys recommend, since I've never been. Thank you.  God Bless You Guy's, and Your Family's.

A 5.9R? I’d recommend hiring an AMGA certified guide to take you out climbing for a day

Thanks for that vote of confidence.  My best climbing grade so fair is the mighty of 5.11d toproped.

To start, he's 14 years old.

If you can top rope 11d, you can definitely lead a 5.9R in Yosemite. Just get 2 tricams and you're good to go

Thanks for the advice.  Any particular sizes you would recommend.

Immediately stop thinking that you're getting accurate answers in this thread.

Find someone who is an experienced trad climber to help you with your first steps. If you're on a youth team ask one of the coaches to introduce you to someone who is. If you're not on a youth team maybe joining one would be a good start.

If you're only 14 you have a lot of years ahead you. There is absolutely no need to rush into things and get in over your head.

Remember - it's not just this cool, 'extreme' thing to do. You can die rock climbing. Very easily in fact.

Indeed it is.  I had surgery, and now I'm in a cast right now because of a climbing accident.

Hi Colin,
Do you have Chris McNamara's book "Yosemite Sport climbs and topropes"?  You can order it/download  through the Supertopo website.  Might be other routes there you would want to do.

Colin, what do your parents think about you rock climbing, considering your accident?
