MENS “CLIMBING” PANTS

More than any other piece of gear, I don't buy outdoors-brand pants (other than for weather-related purposes).  They just get trashed way too quickly.

I used Dickies carpenter pants for climbing for years; they're super durable but kind of stiff.  Then, just this year, they started making stretch versions.  Best climbing pants ever.

I have to agree. Its a slight edge but better. Also the lined winter guide pants with the fleece liner are great for climbing in winter. Wore them in 30 degrees and that is all I needed for the legs.

MHW Super Chockstones have been my personal favorite but the fit probably isn't as well suited to tall and lean.

I’m a big fan of LL Bean Pathfinder pants. They’re super tough, fit well, and cost about $50.

OR ferosi 3/4 pant. Super comfy, stretchy and lots of room in the crotch. THe fabric is a bit soft for climbing but as long as your not climbing with your knees you should be fine

I had two brand new guide pants completely disintegrate on me. Every stitch and zipper on the entire pant fell apart. I had also bought a bunch of their other clothing and it all did the same thing. Never even bothered with the warranty, their clothes were so bad I just threw everything out and started over. Own two pairs of Kailis pants and they are very nice.

I only climb in either Stretch Zion's or Outdoor Research Ferossi pants. Why? Because I really like the way they climb and I can afford them.

Just bought two pair of Prana from REI that were on clearance 30% off.

I have some Dead bird pants that are suitable for spring/fall climbing when the weather is cold, but they are a specialty pants ($$$), called Gamma MX.

+1 for scrubs, especially for the gym. Carhartt makes some that are super durable.

Carhartt makes scrubs? Next up is the Arc teryx  crag scrub

Those Costco Eddie Bauer pants are a good outdoor climbing pant as they wick/vent a bit. The flex is nice and there's a secret pocket with a zipper on the butt. For the gym and cragging I like them as well as the carhartt forceflex pants. They have a double knee version that's pretty durable and flexy, but not very moisture resistant. $22 vs $45

Pants are fine, if you're a prude.  I prefer climbing in just my hairkini and an R1 top.

I have really been liking these. They move really well, but aren’t all baggy, so they don’t get hung up on stuff and I don’t have to roll them up to see my feet.  Side pocket fits an iPhone. So far they’ve been bomber.

IMO, there are no good men's climbing pants. Only decent ones.

Stretch Zion fabric pants (your choice of cut) on sale around $35. Also like jcrew factory/merchantile flex chinos on sale for $22.50. Super cheap and flexible

I actually don't care for most marketed "climbing pants".  Most of them are made from "all synthetic" fiber and I don't really care for the way they feel.  Going up into the mountains with varying conditions is completely different application as someone will chime in.. For the largest part of the climbing community, which is cragging or going out for the day in ideal conditions, it really surprises me that there aren't more cotton based material offerings.  Maybe they would have to have a warning label on them stating "This product is to be used under favorable conditions, using this product in any other condition may result in hypothermia or death". :)

I can’t believe no one has mentioned stretchy Carhartts. Am I the only one? They are super tough, yet flexible enough that only a couple of times come to memory where I wished I had something more flexible. Been climbing in carhartts for years now.

  • Black diamomd modernist in slate! You can pick them up now on steep and cheap for $35! They are usually 100. Totally water proof. 4 way stretch. They hold up grate and look nice when not covered in chalk. I wear them almost every day. And on all multi pitch routes!
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
