Best stick clipping system?
|
After bailing on a few sketchy starts the last few weeks, I finally decided to get a stick clip. |
|
Superclip and a paint pole. |
|
Extendable 3-section 20' painters pole from Home Depot with a Superclip. http://www.libertymountain.com/products/5476/NTN18421 |

The new beta stick evo is pretty rad. Super secure and folds down really small. |
|
The Squid with an extendable paint pole of your comfort length. I also use an angle attachment with the Squid because it makes it easier, and adds about a foot to the pole length. |

Another vote for the super clip. Works best with a 3piece 16ft extension pole. I have used the beta stick as well (old style) and it was pretty flimsy at full extension. |

Who on earth still uses a Squid??? |

How is the super clip for retrieving a quick draw. Looks sketchy to get it fixed onto a previously hung biner. Also is it possible to thread a rope on perma-draws? |
|
I've tried most of the various devices. For me the Beta Stick works fine, especially when couple with a qd that has on one end the Mad Dog 'biner with the clip that holds the gate open. Super easy to clip that way. |

Everything is more difficult the further off the ground it is, because the pole is harder to move with precision. |

I think your using the “mad rock trigger wire”. That is a great setup, I put a couple small o-rings on the spine of the bolt side biner and attach my avalanche probe pole. Works great and compact enough to put in checked luggage. |

Also is it possible to thread a rope on perma-draws? Can't offer any help there as I've never done a route with perma-draws. |

Overhand knot is a way to go. |

Okay, so, the superclip goes with a painters pole. What length of painter's pole do y'all use? I'm thinking a 6-12 extendable pole like this wold work (but I imagine it will be much cheaper at my local hardware store). |

Makes a great walking stick to the crag. |

I'm a fan of the beta stick; I have the old one and just bought my friend the Evo. It's just dramatically more convenient to have a stick that (almost) fits in my 45L backpack (probably fits in a larger size). You can take it in carry-on luggage, it fits in cars without running the length of the car on top of seats, etc. It's also much lighter and because it fits in a backpack you don't have to carry it—no need to try scrambling up the approach with a 5 foot pole in your hand. |
