Hand Cramping from Crack Climbing

I’m not talking about “oh I just started crack climbing and it hurts is that ok??”

I do a lot of crack climbing and the meaty part of my palm between my thumb and index finger feels crampy and sensitive a lot of the time. Even when not climbing. I assume it’s from hand and thin hand jams, constantly squeezing my thumb down.

Anyone else have this and know what to do? I’ve been massaging it but not sure if I’m doing it right as it hasn’t really seemed to help.

Thanks!

Try hand stretches with resistane(rubber bands around your fingers). Whenever you overwork a muscle group you will fatigue it. Maybe spend a few days face climbing and see if that eases the cramping.

This only happened to me in the first few months of crack climbing, now I never feel that cramp unless I take a long break from crack climbing or do a really strenuous thin hands crack.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
