Careful tho, the insulation is so good you will constantly burn your tongue

I am intrigued by the idea of a "packable thermos".

What are you asking for it to do?

I've got the basic REI one that everyone else seems to have. It's small enough to pack, but it can't be any lighter or it wouldn't keep stuff hot. If you put hot drinks in it in the morning, it's good all day in cold temps. I bet it's 10-12 oz.

I've got a much larger Aladdin and it's exactly the same, just bigger.

Think about it, you need steel to have enough strength to make a vacuum. You can't insulate better than a vacuum. So basically they all weigh and work about the same, the only variables are in the lid.

I just meant non leaking, able to rattle around and good weight ratio.

the one corey mentioned has a lock for the lid. and i can confirm, they are crazy good at keeping things warm. i don't like that they don't have a cup. i just use a thermos with the cup on the top and a twist off cap/spout.

GSI Microlite 500ml. Weighs less than 8oz and stays very hot most of the day. They make a 720 ml version, too.

Klean Kanteen insulated wide 12 or 16oz. Leak proof lid works great and the only time I’ve had a spill is when I failed to close the lid.

Their TKPro looks nice too.

I second the Zojirushi. (Linked by Chris Wright).  The heat retention is so good I sometimes add cold water to my tea so that I can drink it an hour later.  A GSI mug, not the bottle Alpineice linked, got  the lowest heat retention rating in an Outside Online comparison ( outsideonline.com/2041596/w… ) that didn't included the Zojirushi.   Whether that applies to the Microlight as well is anyone's guess. The half-liter Zojirushi. weighs 1 once more than the GSI, so the weights are comparable.

Depends on the definiton if "Best lightweight packable thermos".

If weight is the main issue: Any lightweight bottle wrapped in insulation you already bring with you.
If you want to get a stand-alone thing; GSI microlite 1000 twist for the lightest and most compact 1L insulated waterbottle.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
