Hey guys, I'm from Texas (yeah I know we invade your state during spring break lol) trying to plan a spring break trip for my friends, many of whom who haven't skied before. Most of us have only been a couple times at most, so take that into account please! I'm looking at red river, angel fire, and ski santa fe as possible resorts. Taos I have heard is not too beginner friendly, but it does sound like a blast. From y'alls collective experience at one, two, or all three of these resorts, which would you recommend and what did you like/dislike from each?
Some parameters I'm looking for input on is this:
1. Slopes for beginners (I'd like to be able to fill about three days of skiing/snowboarding with fun routes) 2. Popularity (are there long lines for ski lifts?) 3. Night life (what's the entertainment scene like? Any recs on cool places to go/things to do around the area?) 4. Housing (are any of these particularly pricy?)
Thanks so much for your help guys! Appreciate it much :)
Haven’t been to red river Santa Fe is fine but you would have to stay in town which isn’t cheap No idea where to stay at at angel fire but the skiing would be adequate
Angel Fire is a good beginner mountain. Great ski school there too. Cheap lodging deals can often be had but depends on the timing. Fairly isolated though.
Santa Fe is likely okay for beginners, lodging in town, not at the resort, so you’ll have nightlife.
Never been to Red River but I’ve had friends refer to it as Little Texas. Family and beginner oriented.
Taos has limited beginner terrain but they use it decently. Good ski school, but generally it will be more expensive relative to the other places. I stay in town when I’m up there overnight.
I would suggest Red River as the place to start first. The town is quaint and varied. Skiing excellent. You can lodge close to the slopes, although you are going to pay for it in all three places. Angel Fire is the most undeveloped. Actually, any of the 3 would be memorable, but I would lean to Red River myself. Lee Davis
