We're taking a trip to Scottsdale for the new year.  Looking for an easy access bouldering spot that is possibly kid friendly.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I am also trying to not have to pack a crashpad.  Do you have any suggestions of a place that we could rent a crashpad from for the afternoon?

Beardsley Boulders would be the most kid friendly / fun for a day.

South mountain is good but with a longer approach and sometimes there are swarms of bees out there.

Camelback doesn't have a bad approach but the bouldering isn't as good as either of the other two places.

Focus Climbing Center in Mesa has pads for rent. Arizona Hiking Shack in Phoenix may have some but I’m not positive, don’t quote me on it.

Thanks everyone for your help, I really appreciate it. On a non-bouldering note we might be scraping the idea of bouldering & going sport climbing instead. Any suggestions that are easy to find & easy to navigate via mtn project, because I have had no luck with a guidebook? I have been looking at the pond/clear creek canyon? If anyone would be willing to show us around we would pay you back with beers afterwards & a place to stay at the Red if you’re ever visiting.

I can't tell what you climb from your profile. Sport climbing near Scottsdale is going to be uninspiring so far. Queen Creek has tons at the Pond and Atlantis. Both are day trips. Nothing nearby that's worthy of the name sport climb except a couple of climbs at Camelback Mtn. Bring a helmet if you climb there. Within an hour and a half you have more to choose from.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
