Scarpa boot fit

How tight should boots fit? I recently bought a pair of scarpa mont blanc pros to replace my cheap doubles and they are very snug when I put them on with medium weight socks. My toes seem like they are in the proper location for front pointing, so how much should I expect the boots to 'pack out' and shape to my feet better?

They shouldn't be tight, and mountaineering boots don't conform much.

They will not pack out,  in my experience. Fit on day 1 is the same as day 20

If they are snug now, you are going to have issues with circulation especially as feet tend to swell. Size up.

That's a really good point and one I hadn't thought of. Sending them back.... Now to decide if I should go up half a size or a full size.

Typical fit is one full size up from street size

I had the same thing happen to me recently. I needed a 45 versus 45.5. Trust me, don’t try and “make it work”. My feet grew a half size last season and at the end i was forming bone growth from the rubbing. Don’t mess with it.

It sounds like you need a different boot not just a larger size. You mentioned that your toes are in a good spot but the boot is too tight in width. Try a wider boot like the Phantom Tech or the Rebel Pro. The are built on the NAG last as opposed to the Mt Blancs AG last.

But don't limit yourself to one manufacturer. Buy the boot that fits right not necessarily the one with the best reviews. Although don't discount reviews totally but the first 3 rules of buying boots is fit, fit, fit.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
